Oh sausage rolls, that is sausage rolls not a cold hot dog sausage in a bun or at best a hot dog sausage in pastry. rolleyes.gifrolleyes.gif

Again I can make my own, but walking into a bakery and getting a big hot sausage roll is much more pleasurable.

And decent bread like mentioned above. I never went into a subway before moving here, but always do while in Bangkok for a subsitute to decent bread.

Marzipan is very easy to make

450g (16oz) Ground Almonds

225g (8oz) Icing Sugar

225g (8oz) Castor Sugar

2 Eggs

1 tbsp Lemon Juice

1 tsp Almond Essence

Whisk eggs, essence and lemon juice.

Stir in the sugars and almonds.

Use your hands to form the mixture into a ball.

Knead well to produce a pliable dough.

Wrap in grease-proof paper and refrigerate until needed.

Where do you find your Ground Almonds?

Tried that but the flavour isn't right. Hoping to find bagged ones in Hong Kong next month.

Or do you mean a tart made famous by Lyons smile.png and Mr Kipling.

Nah; I'm talking about the ones that used to be made by my Mum, and later by me. in England where I could get all that I needed anytime. Nice picture.

everythings out there just open your eyes and look

bullshit......show me where the cherry ripes are ??

In my fridge, in the dairy tray at the top of the door. That's to stop the short-arsed buggers in the house from stealing 'em!

Decent motor racing. Brands Hatch.

That's me in the Blue thingy at Brands Hatch. biggrin.png

I jut can't guess what the blue thingy is.

I'm homesick now.

Dooooh, it's my Transam. rolleyes.gif

I was going to guess Camaro... ;)

Apart from my dog, the things I miss from home are decent meat pies (although they were becoming increasingly harder to find), decent cafe breakfasts, and being able to get soy milk in virtually any coffee shop (I'm lactose intolerant). I also would love to find a gym that has Les Mills' RPM classes!

My mom made everything from scratch (yes pickles), but never suggested home-made marzipan, I doubt it would come out the same as what I'm used to.

Of course you blanche and peel the almonds first right?

Wouldn't want dark flecks of bitter wood taste.

Tried that but the flavour isn't right. Hoping to find bagged ones in Hong Kong next month.

Please report on prices back here. Not shaped, flavored or colored, just the raw ingredient, I used to get a Swedish brand in log form for not much at all, I think 1/2 a kg each for just a few dollars.

Johnny; what do you want me to report on...the price of Ground Almonds or the price of Marzipan, if available?

There is a small bread/pastry shop just outside the entrance to "TOPS" supermarket in the Future Park shoppnig centre Rangsit and the various breads on sale are excellent.I can't recall the name but it is something like Yamasaki and it is part of a chain so I imagine there would be shops in other locations.

Pies of all shapes, sizes and varieties (I know you can get them, but anyone know somewhere local to Minburi?)

Decent flavoured crisps - anything by Walkers and sea salt & balsamic vinegar Kettle Chips.

Diving in the North Sea and bringing up a big bag of lobsters.

Lobsters from the Northsea....?!

Absolutely. They're crawling all over the wrecks, and i'm not talking tiddlers either. If I don't get at least 3 or 4 every dive, it's been a very disappointing one.

Great scallops too, but not where I regularly go......sad.png
