Extension Non Immigrant O-A Multy Entry Visa

Featured Replies

I am in the posession of a Non Immigration Visa O-A nulty entry. I innitialy arived in Thailand at September 29, 2011 and got a 365 days stamp until September 28, 2012. In december 2011 I had to return to the Netherlands because of the death of my brother. I returned to Thaland at December 21, 2011 and got a 365 days stamp until December 20, 2012.

At the first of May 2012 I traveled to the Netherlands in order to assist some people in financial projects. I intent to return to Thailand mid September this year.

My queston is, when do I have to extent my Non Immigration Visa O-A, before September 28 or before December 20?

If you are back in Thailand before the 28th Sept (before visa expires) you will get stamped in for another 365 days

Thank you Tafia for this quick response.

"If you are back in Thailand before the 28th Sept (before visa expires) you will get stamped in for another 365 days"

Before the actual visa expires is correct.

I'm not so sure that date is 28 September.

You must reenter before the "expiration date" on the visa, not the expiration date of your permission to stay in Thailand stamped in your passport If you enter before that date, you will get 1 year permission to stay, but if yoy leave Thailand during that year, after the visa expires, you must purchase a reentry permit to keep your permission to stay "alive". Single, 1000 baht, multiple, 3800 baht.

You have to enter before the Visa expires. It wont be 28th Sept.

Look at the expiry date on the Visa.

It will be 12 months after the date of issue.

Thats correct, I stand corrected. I was working on the dates the op posted and you're right it doesnt actually mean the 28/9 is the visa expiry date.

I also have non-immigrant O-A (retirement) with multi-entry. I am due to extend this Friday. Although this is my 2nd extension I still can't remember the title of all the documents needed. Last year I filled all out at Udonthani immigration instead of on computer. I do know that I have to have income statement (have), passport (obviously) w/pictures and of course baht. Last year I had to have "landlord" blue book copy, this year the wife has blue book for our (her) house so I'm guessing copy of it along with her ID, show bank book (they weren't interested in the money in it, just that I had one), and draw a map from house to immigration. To be clear, this is NOT a visa based on marriage. What I don't remember are the forms to be filled out for the extension and multi-entry (TM 8?). Can anybody post the forms (just the TM/title number I would think) needed, I think the same would apply to the OP. It is also pretty clear that the requirements of the local immigration office may change from year to year or day to day, although I will say that so far working with the Udonthani Immigration has been quite pleasant.

As a note, going in and out of the country will reset your 90 day report, but not expiration of O-A visa, as I understand it. At least that is the way it has worked here in Udon. While the multi-entry is a bit expensive initially, it sure beats all the paperwork every time you wish to leave and return and one can do so at will without a hassle.

Thanks

You extended your permission to stay so it is not called O-A anymore. You extend for "retirement". And any travel requires a re-entry permit to keep that current permitted to stay alive for return.

It is TM.7 printed front/back on one A4 paper. Attach 4x6cm photo taken within six months and include phone number on rear even though no block for it. Passport data page/original visa and extensions should be copied along with departure card. Normally no further proof of residence is required after first extension but have in case.

Thanks

TM 7 for Application for extension of temporary stay.

TM 8 for re-entry

I too use Udon Immigration and always found them helpful professional and courteous.

Thanks, appreciate the help. I like to have as much filled out as possible when I show up, probably doesn't really help but it makes me feel more confident anyway.

Yes, if you want current permit to stay "alive" you need to either have multi-entry or fill out the paper work each time before leaving. That is why I like the mult-entry, come and go as you please, just keep a watchful eye on the stamp the put in your passport when returning to make sure it is correct.

I had to enter Thailand before July 3, 2012. Does that mean I have to re-enter Thailand before that date or otherwise my Non-Immigration Visa O-A will laps?

Is it possible to go to the local Thai Ambassy or Consulate to submit an extention request, like the one I would have submitted with the Immigration Office? (Ofcourse withe the bankletter confirming the 800,000 Bath in the bank account.)

It means you can use that visa for entry up until that date (July 3 2012) for a new entry and will receive permission to stay for one year from the date of entry. You currently appear to have a stay until May 2013 but for any return after July 3 you will need a re-entry permit to keep that date alive. If you do not leave/return prior to July 3 you will need to plan to extend your stay for retirement at Immigration during April/May time period next year.

No you can not extend your stay at a Consulate. But you could likely obtain another O-A visa from home country again.

Lopburi, I have a multy entry Visa. Do I still have to apply for a re-entry and if so, can I do that at the local Ambassy?

Edited by HenkKorat

After July 3rd you will need a Re Entry Permit if you leave the country.

Apply at the local Immigration Office.

1,000 Baht for a single and 3,800 for a multi.

Your multi entry visa expires on July 3 per your above post so any entry after that date you will only get the normal visa exempt entry unless you preserve your current permitted to stay stamp date with a re-entry permit (which you use as your visa for entry). You obtain from immigration office or if last minute you can get for slightly higher price at Bangkok airport during departure process from 06-2400 operating hours.
