Ubon Ratchathani To Vientaine

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on the best way to get to vientaine tomorrow from Ubon for a visa run.

I hope to set off around 11am.

My understanding thus far is bus to udon thani then bus from there to vientaine?

Im living in the east side of ubon not far from Big C - I saw a bus terminal today around the corner from Big C - is this the main terminal???

Thanks

I have no real idea but yes the bus option sounds like your best bet. Regarding the correct terminal to use you might want to ask in the Isaan forum.

If crossing over into Vientiane a bus from Ubon to Nongkhai on the border would make more sense, unless you meant taking the 'international' bus from Udon all the way to Vientiane (I have no experience with this).

However if you're doing a visa run then I'm pretty sure Mukdahan / Savanakhet is by far the most convinient option if traveling from Ubon, assuming it meets your visa needs.

What kind of visa run will you be making?

Take the international bus from your location to Vientiane and avoid the scam artists along the way. It's easy to do, because they take care of everything to get into Laos and to your final destination in Vientiane. When you ready to come back, just take the same bus from the market they dropped you off and go back home.

Are you sure you need to go to Vientiane and cannot get the job done at Savanakhet (like brotherother asked)?

I have driven myself from Ubon to Vientiane numerous times which is okay but no way I would take the bus. I would rather fly through Bangkok.

You are correct about the bus terminal behind Big C and over the main ring road being he main bus terminal for Ubon.
