Short Selling In Thai Stock Market

Featured Replies

Is it possible to short sell a stock in the Thailand? How do you go about doing this?

Thanks

What stocks are you trying to short sell ?

1) Yes you can take short positions on about 30 single stocks via the future markets. List as follows:

Care! As these are futures contracts so leveraged. You should read the contract specifications at the TFEX website.

You can also short the SET50 index via futures. In addition for the SET50 index you can take short positions via index options

2) To do so, you would need to open a trading account with a broker. I have an account with KGI Securities. Their main office is in Sathorn in Bangkok. If I recall there was quite a bit of paperwork to fill in, to open the account, including a questionnaire to assess your suitability, plus they asked for passport and copies of your bank book.

KGI's service seems quite good - I can't comment how it compares to others. They send research notes daily on individual stocks by email. The accounts I have enable me to trade individual shares, as well as futures and options.

Cheers

Wow thank you so much Fletch. What a amazing reply!

I def wont be jumping straight into this.

People like you are what make this forum so great :)

there is a Money Expo going on at Impact Muang Thong Thani.

Perhaps you should take a look there.

If you want to short stock, is it that you want to exercise your shorting skills or short particular stocks or short the SET overall? Or is it with a view to hedge current stock holdings?
