PM Yingluck rules out cabinet reshuffle

BANGKOK, May 17 - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Thursday ruled out a cabinet reshuffle after the five-year ban from political life of 111 executives of the disbanded Thai Rak Thai Party (TRT) expires at the end of this month.

The premier said her government will not close the door for those who have the capability to work with the government, but noted that it depends upon the timing as resolving the people's problems is her government's priority.

"I still don't know when [the banned politicians] will join the government as I must see which field they want to work in for the country," said Ms Yingluck. "The government wants capable persons, not only the 111 former Thai Rak Thai executives, but whoever can help solve the country's problems."

When asked about a possible cabinet reshuffle, the prime minister said she did not think of it during this period as she wanted to focus on the work, but she will inform the public if there's any change.

The Constitution Court in 2007 dissolved the Thai Rak Thai party, headed by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Two senior party members were found guilty of election law violations after they were directly involved in bribing candidates from smaller parties to compete in particular constituencies to ensure the minimum of 20-per cent eligible votes to win the seat in 2006 election was achieved.

The party dissolution was accompanied by the five-year political ban of its 111 executive members.

The ban will expire on May 30 amid reports that many of the former TRT former executives expected to return to politics and take ministerial posts in the Yingluck Shinawatra administration. (MCOT online news)

Did she understand the question? Cant be right.

It's a good thing for her that real journalists are few and far between in this country... otherwise these words would be repeated in news articles announcing the new cabinet lineup in a couple of weeks from now.whistling.gif

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minster Yingluck Shinawatra said Thursday that there would be opportunities for members of the so-called 111 Club to join the government but ruled out a cabinet reshuffle in the near future.

The five-year ban on the former Thai Rak Thai Party executives of the club will end at the end of this month.

Speaking upon arrival in Bangkok after an official visit to Qatar and Bahrain, Yingluck said her government would not close the door for the club members to join the government.

"They are capable and qualified persons who are more than welcome to join our work. However, it will depend on the timing," she said.

"Inviting them to work in the government will depend on their qualifications and certainly their wishes," she said.

When asked whether there would be cabinet reshuffle to allow the club members to join the government, Yingluck reiterated that it depended on the timing.

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said some 40 politicians had already contacted Pheu Thai and its executives, expressing their wish to apply for a membership on May 31.

That's what is said for today.

No where in the article does she say anything specific about dates or even general time frames. Only,

"I still don't know when [the banned politicians] will join the government"

She could reshuffle the Cabinet next week and nothing reported in the OP would be a lie.

.

as said, that's the beauty of her non-speak.

She really hasn't said anything concrete.

Next week's thread title could... in all her honesty.... read...

PM Yingluck Completes Cabinet Reshuffle

you're right about the journalists. They are the ones that need to pin her down to more definitive statements.

.

"Inviting them to work in the government will depend on their qualifications and certainly their wishes," she said.

Shouldn't that be something like "Inviting them would depend on their qualifications and how they might fit in the cabinet and be able to further the government's policies as stated in August 2011." An invitation should certainly not depend on their wishes, unless it's in the negative like 'I don't want this or that'.

"They are capable and qualified persons who are more than welcome to join our work. However, it will depend on the timing," she said.

When asked whether there would be cabinet reshuffle to allow the club members to join the government, Yingluck reiterated that it depended on the timing.

another article and more non-speak.... amazing. :D

.

Even with all the non-speak, I will concede it's marginally preferable to the normal state of affairs, as exemplified by quotes of 4 other past news report OPs:

------------------------------------

Yingluck brushed off a reporter's question

------------------------------------

The prime minister is silent

------------------------------------

Yingluck did not answer reporters' question

------------------------------------

She simply smiled and waved cheerfully to reporters while walking away

-------------------------------------

....at least now she's talking.

Next step is for her to actually say something.

.

The government wants capable persons, not only the 111 former Thai Rak Thai executives, but whoever can help solve the country's problems

Surely the reason she was elected Prime Minister is because she can solve the country's problems.

BB had nothng to do with it?

in the near future = in the next 2 weeks

Of course she rules out a cabinet re-shuffle. She has not the power to order a re-shuffle, that power is based in Dubai not Thailand.

Actually if some of those 111 highly capable soon-to-be new members of the Pheu Thai party are placed in cabinet positions that would be a re-people-ing rather than re-shuffle of current (cabinet) members unless a reshuffle may include the option of shuffling in and out wink.png

so... she didn't rule out a cabinet reshuffle

but i thought the title of the thread and op was.... oh nevermind

I think they left "... until the end of May" out of the title.

Right, expect for the actual title of the op

she didn't

I am available. I have a plan. I plan to make huge savings on all government undertakings by limiting the graft and corruption to 15%.whistling.gif

with no timeline stated, even the OP title would not be a lie.

I bet the phone calls to Dubai are mounting.

no, it is a lie, the title says "pm yingluck rules out cabinet reshuffle"

and she didn't.

I bet the phone calls to Dubai are mounting.

I believe they are all with the convicted criminal, Thaksin in China for golf and to bid for their positions. Yingluck rules out a cabinet reshuffle til Thaksin decides who gets what.

Changed her tune when she heard Jatuporn was no longer a MP.

She would not say he was ruled out. Her comment was he was a good man and a hard worker.

It's not a lie. She ruled it out.... but without a specific time frame mentioned, it could have meant only for the day it was said.

She's getting quite adept with non-speak. Seems to have a real knack for it.

That and literally not saying anything to reporters.
