Hmmm. I hadn't thought about the Olympics. me smells airline conspiracy. In the USA, the problem is even though Low Season in Thailand, we hit the School vacation around May 31. Then the big US holiday and traditional shop closures around 4th of July. I have found that booking in advance can help, but after 13 trips, most on short-notice, I get just about the same prices booking with three or four day notice. Airlines try and hold out for highest price possible, then as flight time approaches, they have to dump the seats. Granted I sometimes had not my preferred, flight times, but from the US there are only really two choices on the west coast, barring the nutty 10 hour layover in China options: (1) Midnight flight out of LAX gets you to BKK at about 11 AM. (2) Or 3 PM flight out of LAX that gets you to BKK at 2 AM. Neither is a deal breaker.

The airlines worldwide appear to have formed a cartel of some sort. Prices for the past couple of years have continued an upward trend, despite the cost of oil coming down recently. I am not sure we are ever going to return to the good old days. They are using less planes, and filling more seats, and creating artificial demand in the process. Very smart, but not too positive for the customer.

I got prices from Glasgow to BKK with Emirates for around 37500baht, but long stopovers

Outbound Fri, Jul 20 02:15 PM GLA BKK 12:25 PM 1 stop via DXB (16:10)

ek.gif Emirates

Return Sun, Aug 5 09:20 PM BKK GLA 12:35 PM 1 stop via DXB (21:15)

ek.gif Emirates

Price on the website is 696.24GBP

Thanks beano. Yeah that is one of the options I am considering. Glasgow takes longer to get to and more inconvenient than London though!

I looked at the AMS-BKK flight on ba.com and it routes via London for £760. The flight LHR-BKK is £1200. Crazy!

You can AMS to Liverpool or Manchester, maybe better than Glasgow.

I'm flexible on dates departures and happy to take indirect flights as long as there is no Indian stopover.

Hi there smokie36, I'm curious as to why no 'Indian stopover'

If the reply is a bit warm for posting here then if you have the time ... PM me please.

Anyone else had a less then desirable experience flting into or out of India?

Thanks ... wai.gif

ps ... not trying to intentionally 'hijack' your thread, but I did note that you had found what you were looking for.

Want to know more about

Fish Farms or a simple Australian Visa Application ?

Its quite simple David. The Indian immigration and airports are shocking. They are insanely expensive and of poor quality.

I lived there throughout the '90s.....
