5 Months Validity Passport, How To Apply For Non-B

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I've got this WP5 letter after applying for the work permit. I was about to go to Malaysia to get the non-B but I just found my passport is about to expire in 5 months; I called to Malaysian embassy and they told me I need at least 6 months. I also called to my embassy and they told me passport renewal takes 2-3 weeks. Right now I am here with a visa exemption stamp and is expiring in less than 2 weeks.

So I cannot wait for a new passport because my allowed stay will finish before I get the new passport. I also cannot enter almost any country with less than 6 months validity; Even if I found a country where I can enter with less than 6 months, I worry if something goes wrong and I don't obtain the non-B because I wouldn't be able to enter the kingdom again.

Right now I am thinking about going back to Europe to get a new passport, then going to the Thai embassy to make the non-B and come back.

Any suggestion is welcomed.

You can not obtain a Thai visa and you can not enter most countries. You could fly to Hong Kong and return for a 30 day visa exempt entry however.

Passport and/or passport replacing travel documents must be valid for at least one month beyond the period of the intended stay.

Thanks lopburi3,

do you think I will have any problem trying to get in to Thailand again with my current 5 months validity? Last time I had a flight to Cambodia and the airline told me I could have problem with my passport, which had exactly 6 months validity by then. For what I've read the passport should be valid for 6 months since the FIRST entry, and you could actually do 3 consecutive entries.

Your suggestion about flying to Hong Kong sounds good to me, I just worry about not being able to enter Thailand again. My plan would be, ask for new passport tomorrow, flight to HK before my exemption stamp expires, get new passport, make non-B. Does that sounds reasonable? I am kinda lost with this whole situation.

When entering Thailand your Passport must be valid for the length of your stay which would be 30 days under Lopburi 3's plan.

So should not be a problem.

As said Thailand has below requirement (which you may confirm at the Delta IATA information site below).

Passport required. - Nationals of United Kingdom can enter with passports and/or passport replacing documents valid for the period of intended stay.

I've just checked and found that for Cambodia you just need 4 months left in your passport. Plane tickets are cheaper, so this looks better. Can anyone please confirm this information?

EDIT: Actually I found contradictory information, some sources say 6 months others say 4. I would appreciate if someone can clarify this

Cambodia require 4 months passport validity, I checked on UK citizen, but might be different for other nationalities.

You can check in the IATA database: http://www.staralliance.com/en/services/visa-and-health/

Thanks Mario.

It is funny that IATA says 4 months required and on Cambodian Immigration website says 3 months http://www.immigrati...emid=75〈=en

anyway I think I should be safe as I still got 5 months left :-)

EDIT: Oh, 3 months from departure date, which should be almost the same as 4 months from entry date ;-)
