May 22, 201214 yr Do they still except GB pounds in BURMA,official and unoffiaial exchange, anyone know the present exchange rate?
June 16, 201214 yr I passed a money changer counter (official one) the other day which listed half a dozen currencies, I recall Sterling was amongst them as was the Thai Baht and the Sing. $. Haven't heard from anyone who has put it to the test though. US$ would be best (to avoid any possible problems).
August 3, 201213 yr I would not exchange GBP in Myanmar -- you will be raped. Take new crisp USD notes and the higher the denomination the better rate you will get. Tell the money exchanger outside of Burma that you want new crisp dollars only for use in Burma and they will give you the newer bills only. Don't accept any with marks or writing on them or these will be either unaccepted or the rate will be poor. There are no ATM's yet for international cards; as mentioned they are for domestic use only.
September 7, 201213 yr All currencies except for Dollars are bought by local moneychangers at a discount of around 10-15% on the 'true' rate. Take Dollars and make sure they are new, unmarked, uncreased, $100 bills
September 8, 201213 yr All currencies except for Dollars are bought by local moneychangers at a discount of around 10-15% on the 'true' rate. Take Dollars and make sure they are new, unmarked, uncreased, $100 bills Why on earth would you want to do that? Serious question.
October 15, 201213 yr better just bring crisp and clean USD, Not a spot!, Euro or SGD because those currencies can be changed in the banks. The banks are limited to the amount of profit they can make on a currency exchange so the rates are in line with the current international rates. If you bring dirty USD or other currency you will have to change on the black market and you will get a much lower rate
