How much for that big table ??

i think he said he would sell something like that for ~70, 80k ish.

I can confirm if you like.

Only if it is in passing conversation....I am always interested in large wood tables.

We bought an outside one...not polished....but a 6 seater, bench seats, about 6" thick slab table and large stump legs....for 9k a few years ago.

I am on the lookout for a large 8 seater for the dining room one day.....have not built the dining room yet...but that dun matter when a bargain pops up.

Lot's of not doing much at all at the moment.

Had to do a visa run so went with some thai friends (HiSo T/C naturally) on their trip to the casinos at Poipet.

The region has changed and certainly gotten cleaner since I was there last, 12 something years ago. It's still grotty but you don't feel like you're catching something just by being there.

For those wh have never been on a border run to Poipet;

5 hour drive to Poipet from Bangkok.

Once at the border exit Thai immigration, proceed to the small (and largely unsigned) building on the right side, just past the first casino to get a visa on arrival.

Ignore the touts, my visa took all of 5 minutes to get ( One PP Photo required).

Once you have the visa proceed a further 150 m on the right side to Cambo PPort control (where you will be fingerprinted).

USD is the currency of choice though you can get by with Baht at most tourist places and with street hawkers.

If you are a punter, the casinos have a relatively cheap VIP program (THB 100k buyin, 2k min bet on baccarat) and will comp you food, drink and accommodation as well as transport to and from and VIP passage through immigration. There is also a 1.8% turnover rebate. You also, (if you buy at the casino!) get unlimited duty free allowance back into thailand. I brought back about 10 bottles, a couple of cases of Guinness and 20 cartons of smokes...

Stopped off at a small village about half way there and saw this being built, no doubt in response to a neighboring villages large pink elephant, sort of a Mutually Assured Construction scenario. When it comes to Deities, size matters apparently....

Took a day off to go to Angkor Wat. WOW! If you have never been, make time to go. It is an unforgettable destination.

Angkor is located next to Siem Riep and is about a 2 hour drive from Poipet.

If you are in you own car it's a straight trip down the only road out of Poipet to Siem Riep. The drive is uneventful apart from Cambodian overtaking habits, which if possible, are worse than the Thais.

There is nothing to see as you drive the single lane black top through endless rice plantations which for some reason lack the picturesque quality they have in LOS. These seem to be more industrial type farms rather than local.

Traffic consists of slow trucks, slower iron buffalos and seemingly the entire worlds supply of 13 year old Toyota Camry's.

Cambodia is the Toyota Camry graveyard of legend where all old Camrys come to die.

As you get closer to Siem Riep the Camrys get slightly newer and are interspersed with Lexus 4x4's which you cant miss as they have the word "Lexus" painted down the side in 12 inch letters, presumably to make sure you realize it is not a Camry.

Siem Riep is a nice country town, sparse traffic and very clean. There are a profusion of hotels, 180 odd at last count not including bungalows and guest houses.

$20 for a day pass to the Angkor precinct which consists of Angkor Wat itself which is massive, and a multitude of smaller temple complexes of varying age and condition. You need to re present you pass at each temple, so dont lose it.

Others have done better pics so I wont bore you with too many.

Another complex which was the inspiration for the tomb raider set.

This is in a thread on the banking forum, but I will repost here as it forms part of my Thai adventure.

One of the must do's of living in LOS is having a bank account. You can do without for a while on a tourist visa but for long term visas it's a requirement. There are lots of different requirements to open a bank account, even differing between branches of the same bank. In my case is was fairly simple and actually easier to do than back home.

Off we go to Kasikorn where all they asked for was my passport.

As I am on a tourist visa at present, they required the missus to sign a referee statement afirming my ID and address.

Sign about 10 forms and pport copies and job done.

Here is what they gave me, no choice, it's all that was on offer.....

Seriously, how can I buy booze, guns an ammo and other manly shit with that card?

She said if I wanted to wait until next month it would be Ben 10 or some other crap...
