Marriage Visa

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I was informed that there might be such thing as a marrage visa for Thailand.

Some one told me they are good for one year. Can anybody shed some light on this visa.

Yes;

Once you have a registered marraige, you can take your Marraige Certificate (either copy) to a Thai Consulate outside Thailand and request a 12 Month Multi-O Visa.

There is no visa for those wo intend to marry.

Wou will also need a copy of your Wife's ID Card, that she has signed and also a letter from her asking that you come to Thailand to support her.

Some consulates are more willing to give out 12 month Non-O visa's than others. It is easier if you can take your wife with you, and she has the House Registration Book, her ID Card and of course the Marraige Certitficate.

Actually there is no such visa.

With a marriage to a Thai you have a reason to make family visits so can apply for a single or multi entry non immigrant O visa. This is normally easy to obtain from most Consulates in your home country or Penang in the local area and provides stays of up to 90 days per entry. The multi type would cover up to about 15 months. As said the marriage certificate is normally required and perhaps a copy of her ID card to indicate you are really still together.

Once you have that visa you can obtain one year extensions of stay within Thailand if you support your wife. The requirements for that are 400k in local bank account transferred from overseas. Income can also be used to make up shortfalls. You should check this LINK

Hi lopburi3

Do you have to have 400k in the bank or will a pension over 40k a month not do? I thought it was one or the other. I would also like to ask if that pension has to be paid into a thai bank account? Happy new year to you all :o

There is nothing in the wording about pensions for support. The 40k is income from employment per immigration web site

Employment evidence, work permit, and tax documentation showing an income of at least 40,000.- Baht.

But as always would suggest you talk with the immigration office serving you to be sure.

As for payment into a Thai bank account there is no requirement for that using retirement extension but there must be a Thai bank account and it is expected to contain a reasonable balance.

Thanks for the information everybody... To up date it a little, so I can get more feed back.

I am in Canada (Ottawa)at the present time. I have translated and Thai copies of our Marriage, Passport(Hers), registration papers. house papers and all the required papers. So I am going to the embassy with all the documents.

Any feed back is welcome.
