Would make a great addtion to the Thai parliment, i mean lets face it all the current MP's are fake as well, but at least with this transgender politican voters already know which bits are fake up front

This person did go down the entertainment trade route, she was a member of the pop group Venus Fly Trap as well as an actress. She's a celebrity which is probably a big reason she won. Could a non celeb have done this?

It was a poor choice of euphimism in my case, I was referring to the Entertainment Trade as in the sex trade.

On your point about whether she would have achieved this victory with her celebrity status, I don't think it matters how it came to be, it came to be. She is a pioneer, and within a few years it will become old news. It's not been that long in the UK that come out as gay when you were a politician was effective career suicide , now we have openly gay cabinet ministers and yawn, who cares?

Pioneers come in all forms, Peter Tatchell was a particularly controversial political candidate back in the early 80's. I passionately hated the guy as he was a Militant member of the Labour Party, during a difficult time in British politics, he and his like crippled the Labour party. He was also a prominent gay campaigner who believed in outing people against their wishes. I detest his politics, I detest his tactics, however he became a lightning rod of publicity for his causes, and gay rights in the UK took a massive leap forward as a result of the work that he did , ( and others such as Stonewall of course ).

Would Barack Obama have been elected if the Rev Jessie Jackson had not led the way? we could look through history and find numerous examples of the Pioneer opening the door of opportunity, allowing others to walk through it. Peter Tatchell and Jessie Jackson are still living, I know they will both say there is still room for improvement but I bet they are both amazed at what they helped achieve.

So here we have a new Pioneer in Thailand, good on her I say, anything that helps people look beyond skin colour and sexuality is fine by me
