FINANCE MINISTRY TO ASK TRANSPORT MINISTRY TO EXTEND SOME ELECTRIC TRAIN ROUTES

The Ministry of Finance will ask the Ministry of Transport to extend electric train lines by a further 1-2 kilometers, in order to cover the areas that would be used to build residential quarters for people on the outskirt of the metropolis.

Deputy Finance Minister Chaiyod Sasomsap (ไชยยศ สะสมทรัพย์) said that Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra had ordered the Treasury Department to survey its land located along the route of the 10 lines of electric train, in order to construct residential quarters that would allow people who take up residency ease in traveling into the city. Initially flats and apartments will be built for students and people from the provinces who came to work in Bangkok. This would allow them to reside in the suburbs where rents were not as expensive as those in inner Bangkok.

Large spaces would be required for the constructions, and the Ministry of Finance is preparing to consult the Ministry of Transport to slightly extend various electric train routes in order to reach the plots of land that would likely be used to build the residences.
