I found while living in Thailand and watching Tv in English or Thai ,with subtitles (mainly movies) that my girlfriend picked up lots of English and also meant that we could enjoy movies together . I also had a French girlfriend some years ago and she also found watching English Tv with subtitles a real help to understand the language better .especialy for fast talking regional accents ..

So I have some TV questions , Can you pick up Thai tv in the uk over the internet or is it like me trying to watch the bbc iplayer abroad (dont let me start rantting about that please ).

and if you can does anyone have any expierience receivig internet tv with subtitles ??

does anyone know of somwhere i could buy/download decent movies with Thai subttiles ??

I have seen there was a Thai satelite channel and would plan on setting that up again does anyone know if it is any good or just news and repeats ??

not sure if this is in the right Forum ??

Don't know about UK but imagine these days such things are global.

Asian grocery store near my mum's in the states had a counter at the back full of 3-ring binders with DVD/VCDs. These turned out to be downloaded and burned shows less than four days old from Thailand.

Many of them had subtitles.

If you don't get good answers here, then ask the Thais living there, your gf should already know how to network with them.

Of course if she isn't a BG she may pick up some bad attitudes/advice from them. . .

You can get dootv in the UK (dootv.tv). It's a subscription service. I think it's about a fiver a month. Quite good. All my Thai mates here have it.

Short answer to the OP'S question is yes, you can get it in England and all over the world. As a recap, my mother had knlee surgery several weeks ago, so she was kind of immobilized. I set up my old sony vaio laptop to her tv via an S-Video cable and started searching on the internet for Thai television and films so that she wouldn't be bored. There's a lot of places.

www.wwitv.com live streams Thai television over the internet so you (or her) can watch there, but there are no subtitles.

As Endure mentioned, Dootv is quite good, but it is a subscription service. The secret is that their video is actually available for free over youtube. Dootv hides the videos from youtube searches, so to find it you have to go to youtube.com and in the "search" box type in "doolakorntv.com" or "doolakorn" and the videos that they have on Doo tv are available for viewing. There are no subtitles though.

Another option is torrent downloading. Go to http://download.cnet.com/uTorrent/3000-2196_4-10528327.html then download utorrent. Once it's downloaded and installed go to www.thepiratebay.se Do a search for the term "Thai". There will be quite a number of videos that have Thai subtitles.

The above sounds about right. Sometimes the free internet streams are a bit jerky or fail completely, and a friend told me Doo TV is better.

Regarding satellite TV, there is Thai TV Global Network on the Hotbird satellite (13E, 10815 H).

This is free-to-air and can be received on virtually any receiver providing that you have a dish pointing at the right satellite (a second dish on a Sky system is possible). There are a lot of repeats, but you can see what TGN is like by viewing it in Thailand on the main True satellite.

Although they probably won't be of much interest, viewers in the UK can also see Dhamma Media Channel and listen to 94 EFM, also on Hotbird.

I have been trying to get on piratebay ,but it kept diverting and going to my internet provider , thought something weird was happening , but after reading the info , it seems they have been ordered by high court to not allow members to visit pirate bay . I didnt realise that this had got so far down the court case route. I know there are lots of other torrent download sites (AT The Moment anyway but for how long ???).

Hi, if you've access to iTunes, try downloading ThaiTunes, the app shows a number of local Thai tv channels including movies in Thai or sometimes in English with Thai subs, I've watched it from outside Thailand no probs

Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app
