Thaksin is a legend in his own mind. I doubt the English papers would be that interested; as I doubt the English public at large, with the possible exception of a few irrelevant soccer players - who are, in any case, no longer on his payroll - would be that interested.

The published photo could have been opportunistic or a Thai photographer on assignment, and Thaksin was there . . . Or, I suppose, could have been taken at an earlier time.

No. the simple solution is that the rule of law is adhered to and every single member of parliament who faces bona fide charges against them is treated exactly the same as every other citizen of Thailand and answers to them in a court of law. If they are subsequently found guilty after the various courts of appeal they should be forced by the constitution and the judiciary to be subject to whatever penalty is deemed appropriate as punishment for their crimes. That is the really simple solution.

Do you think CC will publicly explain it after deliberation? Thai politics is a maze wrapped in a haze, where no one says what they really mean to say - instead most utterances are encrusted with 'what is supposed/expected to be said,' and is self-censored by 'who might lose face in the process.' In other words, a Thai politician or a CC jurist is rarely capable of straight, no bullshit explanation of anything. Plus, they most often do things in secret. Sunlight is a great disinfectant, but have you ever seen a Thai relax in the sun?

Remember Chalerm (?) when he says he knows about someone breaking the law, the best he can do is mention the first letter of the person's name, and then goes on to say he (Chalerm) won't apprehend that person because that person will suffer enough from the guilt of knowing he did something wrong. If that's what comes down the tubes from Thailand's #1 crime fighter, I don't want to imagine what his underlings are doing.
