The big Supercheap is a horrible place to shop and many prices are cheaper in places like Jasmine or Bird@Home plus they will deliver for free. Also look for sales at the more well-known outlets.

For electronic items Powerbuy, Homepro, The Power and even the supermarkets are IMO preferable to Supercheap as well.

Though I am not totally against Supercheap; their minimarts are great.

you are nuts. Electro's are so much cheaper at super cheap. in fact i bought all my A/C's there and saved 1-2k on even the small 9k btu. had to pay for install but still came out cheaper and they did a really clean job

Yes, might be cheaper. But there is not a big range of choice.

  • 1 month later...

Most of those furniture can be bought in the back at supercheap at cheaper prices

But is there a free/immediate delivery service ?. Places I mentioned will load the stuff on the pick-up and follow you home, all in the price.

Bought a metal office cabinet at super cheap, half the price of the same model in home pro

Free delivery usually the next day

Yes, Supercheap is free delivery - and although some lines of furnishings are limited (as has been pointed out), many of the items that they do carry are of very good quality and low price. I got a very good quality desk & office chair and other good quality furnishings there for exceptionally good prices. By way of example, the desk was not much dearer than a shoddy and very cheap looking job at Big C. Well worth a look. With electricals, it's a slightly different story - you really do get what you pay for. Their cheap electricals are often highly unreliable, but they also carry good quality stuff at very reasonable prices. (Be sure that when you visit, it is an overcast or rainy day.)

Supercheap is refered to by Thais as 'Burma Paragaon', I refer to it as supershyte, Ive seen doors falling off display models there....the old saying is 'the poor man pays twice' better off getting the best quality you can afford and then you wont be replacing it......also easy enough to re-sell.....There is a guy named Georgio near Phuket Town who specialises in selling second hand stuff from his house...even after people have left the country. Ive known him for 5 years and he's never dudded anyone...so when its time to sell your stuff on...Georgio is the man.

^Went there (Supercheap) again yesterday looking for another desk and office chair. I have to say that yes, there was a lot of rubbish amongst the small scattering of gems. And unfortunately, I note the cost of their furnishings seems to have increased markedly over the past year or so. I ended up getting the stuff at Homepro, but had a quick look at Tesco on the way. You want to talk about shoddy and falling apart, try Tesco.

Big C is another place full of shoddy stuff, Ive heard the best quality and best value for money stuff is made in Chiang Mai, unfortunately you need to drive a truck up there to get it and the fuel bills would be huge. I find some of the best outdoor stuff is at the no-name mom and pop shops on the side of the road around Phuket.

My advice is to not move to Phuket!!! Too many problems, mafia, corruption, ect! Move NE to Isan, maybe Korat! It's so nice and not too many problems! Chiang Mai use to be good also, but now I understand it's crowded with foreigners, which means the prices go up! Good Luck, if you decide to stay in Phuket. You'll probably need it!!!

If it's office type furniture you're looking for, Index on the Bypass Road has a reasonable selection that isn't expensive. The photos below are what I bought from there more than 4 years ago for my home office. From recollection, everything came as flat pack, though simple to assemble and very robust.

I also bought my office desk combination at Index. Assembled at home by the delivery guys.

Reasonably cheap, quality ok, although there has been some lifting of laminate and one drawer has come apart. Easily fixed with a bit of glue.

Desk looks nice and sturdy....the chair looks a bit uncomfortable though, for my new desk index it is

You show me yours and i will show you mine

The desk from Super Cheap cost 5600 baht and is much better quality than the 2 pantry cupboards we bought from Index for the kitchen which they assembled on delivery

Mines embarrasing...I'll have to clean it up first hahahaha...will post pic tomorrow after the maid comes
