June 12, 201214 yr I am newly retired in Chiang Mai and am shopping for health insurance. I have recently been quoted around $1630 per year for hospitalization insurance, which is a very reasonable cost; however, at age 70 that premium doubles. The insurance company is Health Care International (HCI). Does anyone out there know of any insurers that do not double the cost of their premiums as one ages? I have gotten suggestions for a company named April International or April Mobilite - I've tried reaching this company online and by email but can't get them to respond. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

If you are already a member, the premium would not increase as much. But to be on the save side, you had better check that out with the insurance company. Please post your findings here, as HCI is certainly one of the more interesting options here, especially if you pay the small stuff yourself and just use the insurance for the heavy cases. Which means, you take the cheapest package.
