Reds still want vote on charter change bill

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The red shirts would like the government to continue a third hearing in parliament on the controversial charter amendment bill. But its leaders say ties remain firm with Pheu Thai Party, which opted on Tuesday not to contest an injunction by the Constitution Court to suspend debate on the bill.

Chairwoman of the red shirts, Thida Thavornseth, said the group still supports the bill being voted on, in spite of the court injunction. She said the red-shirt stance on the issue didn't have to be in line with the ruling party, but she would monitor developments.

Deputy Agriculture Minister Natthawut Saikua - another red-shirt leader - told the Inside Thailand show on Spring TV news he would prefer parliament to continue debating the charter bill. But he understood the Cabinet's reasons for wanting to avoid a political crisis. He was confident he could explain this to red shirts.

Natthawut's remarks came after red shirts voiced upset at the charter bill being delayed. Some red-shirt MPs even claimed Parliament president Somsak Kiatsuranont should be impeached. Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister, Chalerm Yoobumrung said such comments were personal opinions but didn't reflect "cracks" in Pheu Thai Party. However, the request to dump Somsak would be considered and people would have to accept the party's decision on this.

Chief government whip Udomdej Rattanasathien said he disagreed with the idea to remove Somsak from the position, saying he had done nothing wrong.

"Somsak was blamed by both sides, government and opposition, which shows that he has done his job fairly," Udomdej said.

He also asked the Chart Thai Pattana Party to take responsibility for failing to cast votes during the session on Tuesday about the Constitution Court injunction. He said that stemmed from leaders of the coalition party not reiterating to its member firmly to attend the session. So, the party had to explain why its eight MPs "disappeared".

Seven Bhum Jai Thai MPs, who are in the opposition, unexpectedly voted in line with the ruling Pheu Thai Party, but Udomdej believed the MPs only gave support because they believed the court could not issue an injunction to parliament. It wasn't a sign that they wanted to join the government.

Udomdej said a session on whether to comply with the court's order would take place, as long as the court had not made a ruling on the charter amendment bill.

Meanwhile, the House backed the first reading of Anti-Money Laundering Bill yesterday with a vote of 369-0. It also backed the first reading of a bill against financial support for terrorism. So, the House authorised two panels to consider the bills.

In other news, the Constitution Court agreed yesterday to consider a petition from Ruengkrai Leekitwattana, a former senator seeking to have the Democrat Party dissolved and penalised with a five-year political ban on its executives.

Ruengkrai claims Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva was picked to be prime minister in December 2008 after an illegal vote in parliament. Ruengkrai claims that 46 votes backing Abhisit were unconstitutional as the people involved were from three banned political parties.

There certainly are a number of cracks appearing between PTP and the Red Shirts. If you look into each of those cracks you will see the square face of Thaksin or the ugly face of greed

Aren't they one and the same thing in this case wink.png

Haha! In some ways yes - but there is his greed and the greed of others.

I don't know that they are really fracturing. Thaksin has always used multiple approaches to achieve his aims. For instance, he will have Black Shirts on one hand, pastry boxes full of money in the other.

PT is tasked to pursuing legal means to return him to power, while the Red Shirts remain as a threat to be unleashed if more conventional methods do no work.

Remember after the Yinglucks meeting with Prem, Thaksin said goodbye to the redshirts,(thanks for the boat ride but now I am taking the car). He also sang they should "let it be" because he sold the dead redshirts for his amnesty and the redshirt movement for a Privy seat. But after the yellowshirts massed against the charter amendment Thaksin revealled a bad phone connection said bye not him, he really loves the redshirts.........

The Red Shirts have called on the new government, led by Thaksin's sister Yingluck, to prosecute soldiers and officials responsible for causing the deaths and injuries, many to unarmed demonstrators.

So far no cases have been brought in connection with the violence and Yingluck's government has raised the prospect of an amnesty for those involved, prompting an outcry from human rights groups.

Earlier, Red Shirt leader Thida Thavornseth stood on the stage - framed by a banner proclaiming "Our friends must not die in vain" - and thanked the crowd for coming.

While the redshirt factional leaders and members of government take a far more Thaksin approach.

A confusing multitude of different protest groups are out on the streets again, suddenly changing the high stakes game over the future of Thai society yet again. There are several factions of Red Shirts, Yellow Shirts of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), Dr. Tul’s Multicoloreds, and those associated with the new street protest group named the “Lightening Rod” with its light blue headbands — organised by the Democrat Party and its Blue Sky TV station.

In this article I will try to describe the new situation that began developing during the Pheua Thai government’s efforts to rush a reconciliation bill through parliament. It is not just the opposition Democrat Party, and the PAD that are severely opposed to this bill, but also the Red Shirts and many Pheua Thai MPs close to the Red Shirts. This has led to severe frictions in the Pheua Thai party. http://asiapacific.anu.edu.au/newmandala/2012/06/05/reconciliation-games/

Ah yes, the Dems new street gang, " with its light blue headbands — organised by the Democrat Party and its Blue Sky TV station". The Blue Sky Station with it's uplifting show hosted by Democratic Party Spokesman Chavanond, Songkhla MP, Sirchoke Sopha and Nakhon Si Thammarat MP, Thepthai Senpong. They seem like a nice bunch of people, not.

A strange condemnation indeed, red shirts have their red station, they certainly are more qualified to be a "street gang"

I guess, in your opinion this is not a case of "what's good for the goose". Not a surprising comment from you.

might be also a show....showing how the population want it. Or by repeating the topic again and again still everyone gets boring of it and it slips thru easier. It might be a crack but it can be something different as well.

You may notice that 2 of the 3 pictured are elected by a district, which rates them far higher in my books than criminal scum given a party list position as a reward for their illegal activity.

Get rid of Thaksin, get rid of the problem. He is the ONLY polarizing element. No Thaksin, no redshirts, no yellowshirts, no prblem. No, I do NOT suggest to murder him, I only suggest to convince him to finally shut the **Snip** up and do what a fugitive from the law does: attract as little attention to himself as possible and enjoy his money.

The funny thing is, in the past he did agree to that several times. There is one article in the other newspaper about Suthep got approached from Thaksin.....Read that.

He is always approaching, telling make peace, I quit, etc etc.

But he never quite gets around to quitting, I wonder why?

Is he obsessive compulsive?

Does he truly believes that Thailand cannot function without him?

Does he puts his own agenda to one side for the benefit of Thailand?

Does he truly believe that he is the one and only man that can lead Thailand forward in a changing world?

Or

All of the above.

He will not be happy until he is crowned "God, Emperor of Thailand"?

Move him to Belgium.

Disagree. The convicted fugitive criminal Thaksin is only the catalyst of deeper problems, but agree in that he does need to be removed. Among the Red factions there are those with a genuine bitch (and correctly so) with the inequality that exists in Thai society.
