Hi guys,

My school are being very slow about getting my work permit sorted, my current visa (90 day NON-B) is up on July 4th. Am I right in thinking that if I don't have the work permit by July 4th I will have to leave the country again and get a new visa? Or can I get this one extended?

Thanks

yes you can extend your non-b visa in case you are treated in a hospital and not able to move, that's the only way. But for sure this is not your case. You most likely have to fly/move out to get another visa from KL, SIN, HKG and come back. The validity of your (once issued) work permit corresponds with your Non-B visa, therefore make sure to inform the Labour department of your situation (Visa renewal). Everything works here, but you have to follow the rules of course. Good luck.

Validity of work permit is not tied to visa and has not been for years. Normal work permit will be one year in most cases, regardless of visa or extension of stay.

Yes you will have to depart to obtain a new 90 day visa for entry and to receive the work permit.

Correct Work Permits are no longer locked to Visa validity.

However if your contract, professional association membership or company specific operating licence renewal is less than one year away, then your Work Permit may also be for less than one year.
