Just wondering what type of work permit would work in this situation. Blowing glass in a small workshop studio and reselling in North America. No actual sales within Thailand.

Might employ a helper for the smaller stuff.

Wondering if this might be doable.

Excluding the art buisness, will have 20-25 years pension from the Canadian Military 800,000 baht or maybe a little over a million if I suck it up for 5 extra years to 25. Might be some investment income too but the key is I want to be able to continue with the glass as a sideline for extra income and to stay busy.

Suspect a work permit might be a problem but will let those with more experience address that subject. You did not say anything about why you wish to live in Thailand so if that is not a requirement you might consider doing your work during the summer in Canada and living here on vacation during the winter. It sounds as though you would be able to afford such an arrangement.

My plan is actually long term retirement but if I stay in the military for 25 years im still only 47. Glass art is just a window im beginning to explore to add to my overall income.

Was originally purely thinking about Baguio Philippines but am considering the Thailand option more. My military pension dont get indexed to age 60 though they pay out the day I leave at 20 or 25. Right now the Philippines has a 7% inflation. In just 10 years my pension will be cut in half for buying power.

Thailand though does look interesting with its 2-3%. Thats of course purely the financial money crunching side.

No dollar value can be put on some of those beautiful areas and scenary. I of course from my short 3 year military tour in Virginia Beach have realized just how much I never want to see another winter ever again.

Theres other more covert options for extra cash out there including the only now opening 3d graphic market for those 3d virtual worlds. Figure 5-10 years from now that will be a way to make real cash income. Still would want to at least pursue the glass art as a hobby to supplement income.

Afterall single peices of glass can get $20-200 for marbles on ebay (considered introductory) and established artists can sell larger peices for literally thousands or 10's of grand.

On a purely tax issue, id have no issue paying taxes. 100% legal. Just hate to be denied the option at all.

Do know one thing, its going to hurt but I might just have to do the full 25 years option in the military. Pension would only increase 25% per month but nest egg side could be far larger.

Either way, im planning a dual philippine/thailand vacation hopefully next christmas period. Should at least get a feel for both options then.

A little workshop for your "hobby" should not attract any particular interest.

That is the way I would phrase it.

The problem will be the visa as you are not yet 50 years old, but double

entry tourist visa's will probably suffice until you do reach the magic age.
