Non-immigrant Rs Visa

Featured Replies

Can anyone shed more information as to the requirements etc of the non-immigrant RS visa? According to TV, it is 'To conduct scientific research or training or teaching in a research institute'.

The above sentence does not make it totally clear if that work has to be performed in a research institute, Is it scientific research, training, teaching or all 3 that must be performed in a research institute?

I ask because I'm currently nearing the end-date of my third, non-immigrant B visa, based not on actually working in Thailand, but investment, company opportunity research etc.

I'm sure I can get a new B visa :o

However, I'm an academic sort of guy. Back in the UK I undertook various research projects in areas of study within which I was qualified. (Telecoms, satcomms etc). That research was a non-profit, non-commercial venture, and led to publication of several research papers.

Now, how can I go about doing the same thing in Thailand - legally? I want to undertake some private, self-funded research into renewable energy systems. The benefit (if any), would ultimately be Thai people, since I would make my results freely available. The venture certainly would not generate any profit, )(as per a commercial company), nor would the intention be to generate any income. It's pure scientific research!

Could I obtain a non-imm RS visa on this basis? And how does such a visa stand with respect to yearly extensions? (I'm marrying my Thai GF very soon, so want to start on the long route towards getting PR, based on three, yearly extensions)

Thanks for any help!

Simon

The meaning of the word "in" is not clear? :o

I suspect you would have to convince a research institute to sponsor your visa request in any case.

'in' is very clear! But does 'in' refer to all 3 items or just the last? (Being pedantic here because bad translations of Thai language documents abound...)

"To conduct scientific research or training or teaching"
