Bare-breasted artist 'hired' to boost shows ratings: report

BANGKOK: -- The "art or obscenity" scandal over the latest episode of Thailand's Got Talent television show now threatens to expose grave violations of media ethics as allegations came out yesterday that the contestant in question had been "hired" to go on stage.

Following strong criticism of the show's Sunday episode showing a female contestant paint on canvas with her bare breasts, Thai Rath newspaper reported yesterday that Duangjai Jansaunoi, 23, had been hired by the show's producers - Workpoint Entertainment.

The news report quoted a close friend of the contestant as saying that Duangjai had been paid Bt10,000 to help boost the show's ratings, but she did not know what she had to do until just before the show was recorded. The friend went on to say that Duangjai was not an independent artist as claimed but a nude model in real life.

Meanwhile, Workpoint Entertainment CEO Panya Nirankul dismissed the allegations in an interview on the "Reung Den Yenni" TV show yesterday, saying that he had asked around and concluded that Thailand's Got Talent producers had nothing to do with it. He explained that agents hunted down many of the contestants, which might be the reason behind this controversy.

Asked if the producers of the show had indeed told Duangjai to take her top off in order to boost ratings, Panya said Thailand's Got Talent was already successful enough so it was very unlikely.

However, he said, he had not yet spoken to the contestant or the agent who had brought her to the show, but admitted that he had made a mistake by thinking that partially censoring the image would be sufficient and promised that it would not happen again.

Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome, who had slammed the producers for allowing the broadcast of an unacceptable show, said yesterday that Panya had called her to explain that the show had been partially censored.

She added that she had warned him that programmes should have a content-screening system to prevent such inappropriate images from being broadcast. She said that Panya had promised that such inappropriate images would not be shown again.

Somchai Sianglai, Culture Ministry's permanent secretary, said yesterday that he had instructed the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to scrutinise Thailand's Got Talent and would write to Panya asking for cooperation and telling him to be cautious about what is broadcast in the future.

Panya had told a Monday press conference that contestants would no longer be allowed to behave in a controversial manner and that the show was only being broadcast so people could show off their talents.

However, people are still doubtful of Panya's explanations because the programme had been recorded two months ago and this bit should have been edited out, especially after Thai entertainment news had hinted about it even before the show was aired.

News agencies across the world have also picked up on the controversy surrounding the latest episode of Thailand's Got Talent.

It's normal practise........these shows are run for money, and the money comes from ratings and controversy. Simon Cowell admits that he sends out requests to professional talent scouts and managers in search of the best up and coming, often professional talent.

Quite frankly, so what, it's only entertainment TV

Where is Thaksin in all this?

We can't have a story that doesn't include him. Did he buy the paint at least?

No not the paint! But they probably used his communications network to broker the deal.Therfore he has to share the guilt...555

It is so funny to see how contradictory Thailand can be.

2 girls parade topless during Songkran, videos on youtube, police investigation and arrest.

1 one girl parades topless on useless TV show from major TV channel, on prime time TV. Moral outrage, nothing more.

Scrutinise the show? It is pap. As if they shouldn't, wouldn't, couldn't have known that this was what she was going to do? As if the editors couldn't have removed the section as it was pre-recorded. Then on the basis of talent, the judges let her through, and little missy Benz throws a hissy fit, due to moral outrage, despite having been in her time modelled in various states of discrete undress. The hypocrisy of it all was quite wonderful to watch.

It was hilarious to watch however, on the video the rather camp judge stating in his very learned manner, that if she had performed in such a way is say, Czech republic, or Italy, that it would have been acceptable. Indeed, topless painters parading around on talent shows broadcast at prime time is a very common event in Europe?????

I have been following this thread now for a couple days...... of course....

As proof that people see what people want to see, many see it as her painting with her breasts. I see things a little differently.

I see it as her , painting with and putting her whole heart into her work....... such dedication should be rewarded.

Agreed. It's only deceipt and deception if the show led its viewers to believe it was a legitimate talent contest. (Oops! I guess the people involved really are crooks and scammers then. Well, no surprise there.)

So that leaves us wondering if the judges themselves were also in on the scam. Hmmm.

Shock and horror!!!

The whole country is based on false modesty and double standards. Thai culture has already been so debased and americanised it would be difficult to find anyone who believed any of this was real.

You probably remember what a shock and horror it was when Janet Jackson by accident showed a breast during the super bowl some years ago.

Merchantable quality

Merchantable quality is an implied condition respecting the state of goods sold in the course of business. Such goods should be as fit for their ordinary purpose as it is reasonable to expect, taking into account any description applied to them, the price (if relevant), and all the other relevant circumstances. The condition does not apply with regard to defects specifically drawn to the buyer's attention or defects that he should have noticed if he examines the goods before the contract is made.

Satisfactory quality

Goods will be of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory. It is a relative standard dependant on matters such as price and description. Aspects of quality include durability, safety, appearance, and freedom from minor defects. wink.png

If she bruised her nipples while doing the painting, will Worker's Compensation pay for hospital stay?

I've got a hand's on, patented, cure for bruised nipples. Just tell her to call 1-800-STUDMUFFIN to make an appointment.

She should be given a medal .....ummm, now where to pin it?

She should be straightened out. Give her the rod. Wait a doggone, hot-doggin' moment, I've got a rod - for disciplinary use, if need be.

What debauchery coming to? What's next, ......butt cheeks tempura? ....katoy doodles? .....salami still life?

The show is called "Thailands Got Talent", there may be some somewhere in the country but, from whats been aired, the scouts do not seem to have found much yet.

There's also a rumour that soon to appear is a new act consisting of twin girls who have found an interesting way to play table tennis, stay tuned.

I see more shock and horror everyday in Bangkok...what's the big deal. You could tell the producers were in on it by the way they rushed out there with the microphone all wrapped up like a ice cream cone...2013's new tourism promotion will be "Disgusting Thailand" I'm sure the Culture Minister is real proud now coffee1.gif

'Talent' Breastgate: Was would-be Picasso hired for the job?

By Coconuts Bangkok

bg.png

BANGKOK: -- Thai Rath has reported that “breast-painting Picasso” Duangjai Jansaunoi was hired by producers of Thailand’s Got Talent to pull her risque stunt on the show.

Duangjai, 23, poured paint over her breasts and smeared them on a canvas to create a crude painting as a contestant on last Sunday’s episode.

A friend of Duangjai said that the producers had approached the woman to propose the act and paid her THB10,000 for performing it. Panya Nirunkul, President of Workpoint Entertainment Plc which produces Talent, admitted that they had approached her but denied that they had paid her, the Bangkok Post reported.

The episode has elicited well-documented outrage from the Ministry of Culture, which is investigating the whole sordid affair.

Pol Maj Gen Saroj Promcharoen, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police, said police would wait for a verdict from the Culture Ministry on whether the show breached public obscenity laws before pressing charges.
