PM leads Chiang Mai meeting to boost post-flood tourism
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is set to lead a Cabinet meeting in Chiang Mai on Friday, November 29, marking a significant effort to bolster northern Thailandโs tourism and economic recovery following severe floods. This event is part of a broader Cabinet tour of the northern provinces, including Chiang Rai, scheduled from November 28 to December 1. The Cabinet meeting in Chiang Mai is a pivotal component of the governmentโs strategy to rejuvenate the northern economy. Jirayu Houngsub, spokesperson for the PMโs Office, highlighted that the meeting is one of many activities aimed at promoting tourism in the region. The 38 year old PM will focus on inspecting measures to combat wildfires and haze, which typically disrupt tourism from late winter through summer. Addressing these environmental challenges is crucial as they have long-term impacts on the regionโs appeal to tourists. The promotion of tourism in the aftermath of the floods takes precedence on the agenda. Tourism is anticipated to play a vital role in driving economic growth and generating income for the region. Jirayu spoke on tourism promotion in northern provinces. โTourism promotion in the northern provinces in the post-flood period is also high on the agenda as tourism is expected to be a core mechanism to help generate income and spur the regionโs economy.โ The PM, along with Cabinet ministers, will depart for Chiang Mai at 8pm on November 28, flying from the Royal Air Forceโs Wing 6 in Don Mueang district to Chiang Mai International Airport. The mobile Cabinet meeting will commence at 10am on November 29 at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University in Mae Rim district. The dayโs agenda also includes addressing the preparation for tackling seasonal bushfires and the associated PM2.5 ultra-fine dust pollution, a recurring environmental issue that requires immediate attention. Beyond the scheduled events in Chiang Mai, the Bangkok-born PM will continue her tour to the neighbouring province of Chiang Rai. Here, she will participate in a meeting focused on economic recovery and flood prevention plans in Mae Sai district, reported Bangkok Post. Day-to-day life in Myanmar
Well, I've been quoted rates anywhere between 2,000 - 5,000 kyat/1 dollar. I'm not actually exchanging USD into kyat anyway - I do a mental conversion just to get a feel for the cost ๐ I also got interrupted with my previous post - I had to teach a couple of science lessons 'online' for students in Hong Kong and mainland China. On the subject of teaching, it's often commented on this forum that most teachers in Thailand/south-east Asia are a bunch of drunken TEFLers, earning a pittance to stay in the country so that they can either satisfy their alcohol or sexual needs! Now I'm not actually a teacher, in that I never studied for an education degree or post-graduate diploma. That situation should maybe relegate me to the TEFLer garbage can! However, I am a very well-qualified and hands-on scientist, and this knowledge, together with my impeccable Oxford accent (!), coupled with my British eccentricity has made me very popular with young students. I do have various pedagogical certificates (phonics, speech therapy etc). Anyway, one plus point about teaching science online is that it is better-paid than teaching general English. So my online classes and in-class teaching brings in about $4,000 a month, tax -free. In 7 months, add another $1,000 to that income when my UK state pension starts ๐ I walked up Mandalay Hill again today and took a photo from near the top. The city of Mandalay stretches away to the Irrawaddy river that you can just see in front of the hills. Over those hills and you're into the region of violence in Sagaing ๐ -
