Hi all

I need to say in the area of Pantip suites in Bangkok for 11 days and and as it seems on first look to be a decent place I was wondering if anyone can add some info.

The issue I have at the moment is that prices and hotel information is really varied.

The hotel has quoted me 3200 per night baht for a one bed renovated suite but I can find no info on what renovated is exactly. I assume they mean its just modernised a bit as most reviews say the place is great but old looking.

I have looked at as many sites and pics as I can find and yes the rooms look a little old but still great and as I am going to be with my fiancee and our 3 yr old daughter the space and kitchenette is a bonus.

Does anyone know if its worth going for the renovated room or if there is any real difference because the normal rooms are about 10000 baht cheaper for the week.

Also Agoda and hotels.com are doing cheaper deals but dont say if its the newer rooms or the older.

It would seem the only downside of the place is hardwired intenet and its not free in the rooms.

A bit annoying as I have an ipad.

Any info appreciated.

a friend stayed there earlier this year, it's getting a bit run down, maintenance and housekeeping not up to par, musty smell (carpet products?)

that building is getting older, bathrooms dated, since 2 years it has operated as a hotel, not very well-run, so now you have tour groups in and out.

before this was more serviced apts style. bad breakfast. plus : nice pool area.

maybe the renovated rooms are ok, pictures in that business tend to be deceiving.

hi there--i can share a bit as I am currently staying at Pantip now for a week with my ten year old daughter and her grandmother--I have also stayed at pantip over many years--sometimes booking a room for up to thee months--but that was years ago, when it was called Pantip Court--still today, if you tell any taxi today pantip Court, most know it--it was, at its time, many years ago, the glory of this area and highly regarded as a luxury building--but, as many have noted, and as I have, it is getting old and worn and the ownership, which has an ambitious rennovation program underway, have basically stopped it and made a few changes, in recent yeas, that they think will bring some customers in,, but appear poorly thought out, as is often the case, I have seen, as some once higher end hotels, fade.

pros of pantip are things liek the room sare very spacious--much larger than you would find in most places--espeically the two bedrooms--they have used the upper, execuive rooms--basically, floors, i think, 13 or 14 and above to 26 (floor 27 smaller penthouses, floor 28 a full floor penthouse, now occupied, but the owner licving here, supposedly, but I have seen it and it is a beautiful layout and room with private elevator)--yes, the bathrooms quite spacious are older, but all works and the place is kept clean--agoda's ropoms are NOT the rennovated rooms, but the older rooms--there are not that many rennovated rooms---i have seen some of the remmovated rooms and they are niceer--they have wood floors (bedroom still carpeted but new) , and not the older carpet--hew paint, new flat screen tvs--kitchenettes remodeld with newer applicances (fridge and micowave) and new countertops, and newer furniture, chairs/sofa, etc.

other things that i have liked about pantip is their service personnel whom I have always found very helpful and friendly--they still have a doorman, and are off the street and will call a taxi for you and its under cover if raining and will help you to your room with any shopping/parcels/etc--howeve, while i stopped staying here longer term was due to the change in some mid-level managers that were especially helpful and reasonable and now they seem to be trying to squeeze more money out of older rooms, etc a bit unrealistic--if you want something more modern and in the area, try Fraser Suites Sathorn--asia rooms often offers great rates on this property--nice one bedromo suites on sathorn for about the same price or cheaper--modern and new, not quite as spacious, but flat screen tvs, modern bathrooms, glass shower stall, comfortable beds with down pillows, etc.

anyway, that is probably more than you wanted, but hope it helps--i like this forum for exactly this kind of thing--someone sharing that will help me make a dieciton about a booking. any questions, just ask.

Agree with all above. Stayed there numerous times prior to actually moving here. The staff are wonderful and the pool area really is lovely. I never spent too much time in the rooms so that element never bothered me. A complete lack of dirty old men bringing back nana and cowboy girls is a another good reason to stay there.

So we can assume that you have no problem with 'clean' old men, dirty young men or clean young men bringing back nana and cowboy girls.

i have stayed at pantip quite a few times and have rarely seen many examples of old men bringing back thai friends of either gender--maybe it happens very late at night and i have missed it--it is more as has been posted, pantip is trying to accommodate tours and families--i have actually seen over recent years, a fair number of younger to middle aged farang couples toting around aisan infants, and when I spoke with one, it seems that bkk and pantip are locations for those seeiing the international adoptions to stay and transition--have seen several again just in this last week.

again, for the agoda prices, the older rooms are still an ok price, but i think to book directly from pantip or even via their website, the rooms are overpriced--there is just too much competition out there, with more being built all the time, for them to charge over 3000 bath for thsee rooms, even the remnovated rooms--asis arooms and agoda offer all kinds of bargains in newer, more modern hotels, with more ammentiies--but, as has been noted in many forums on thailand, with many things, thai seem to have a price in their heads and will not budge, even on temp "commodities" like hotel rooms which, of course, have no "shelf life" and the piotential revenue is lost forever--they will stubbornly stick to some unrealisitc price and left the room go empty--or the other thai custom is when there are fewer customers, rather than plan a promotion--potential price reductions/speicalis, the thought is to raise the prices and gouge the remaining customers--helping ensure that they never return.

agree with sammyj. plus side is space and location, pool and some of the older staff.

the pictures on agoda look much prettier than

the room you get.

i didnt see any improved bakery or egg station, but i will go have a look.

my visit was a few times late last March.

it's more family focused. Actually I find it very funny when a guy goes to breakfast with his hooker from the night before. He's there, quiet, occasionally trying to pretend she is his GF. She is texting her BF and with a face on her saying "just pay me you sad <deleted> and let me go home". Cracks me up no end. Feel free to exchange dirty old men for sad <deleted> if you like.

I wonder what sort of psychologically damaging experience has led you to be so unnecessarily abusive.

He goes to Bangkok with his wife.

It was the wife that did it actually; makes me believe you knew her lol

A lot of normal people do, and they live here with their wife as well. Bangkok is not only a knocking shop for those who can not get any or afford the hookers in their own country ya know.

True, but there's no need to be jealous of the guys that are there enjoying themselves.

Really appreciate all the advice and points you make. Thanks mate.

Not sure how you compare Fraser Suites Sathorn with Pantip though as I just checked the price and they are 70000 thb for 11 nights.??????

Ouch

from what i just checked on asia rooms, fraser suites is charging just under 3000 baht for their one bedroom and that is less than what pantip offered for their rnnovated one bedroom per night--fraser much more modern and one thing i did not mention from my stays there, it is actually pretty decent walking distance to two skytrian stations--cross over sathorn and walk 10-12 minutes to saladang skytrain up soi convent and a right on silom--also bnh hospital right there and lots of good eating and multiple 7-11's along soi convent

Do you mean Urbana sathorn Bangkok because Asia rooms has no listing for Fraser suites in Sathorn ??

The cheapest double room with breakfast they have is 3228 thb which is more expensive than renovated Pantip room and Pantip has more room space

Thanks
