Thai Army To Turn Violent Students Into 'Gentlemen'

Did the same in England at Colchester, did not work. There was no respect for the Army Personnel from the prisoners.

THe difference is here if they cannot instill respect they will and can instill fear.

Installing fear will get more negative reactions from the offenders, they will rise up against those who are in charge.

Sorry but I have to disagree violently with you. I cannot go along with generating terror, but fear of retribution is a great motivator. You'd have to be insane to think that 'rising up' against a Sergeant or Petty Officer would produce benefits. It was said that the infantry in the UK army were more scared of the Sergeant at their backs than the enemy in front but the greater fear would be that of letting your mates down and what would follow if you did. Nobody relished being thought of as the weakest link in the chain. Foul up and the whole squad suffers ensures that everybody gives of their best. So it would be with these young offenders. They'd soon learn that being as popular as a pork chop in a synagogue with the other lads undergoing corrective attitude education and training is not a good idea. That means that discipline must be instilled if teamwork is to take place which would be prerequisite for success in competition against other 'teams'. Cleanliness and smartness should be insisted upon at all times and a bearing that displays some, but not excessive, self regard.
