Transport Ministry: New Red-Line underground train system launch delayed

BANGKOK, 29 June 2012 (NNT) – The Transport Ministry has conceded that there has been a delay in the launch of the new section of the country’s Red-Line electric train system.

Deputy Transport Minister Chatt Kuldiloke said that the construction of the Bangsue-Talingchan Red Line electric train is now completed.

However, Mr. Chatt conceded that the 15-kilometer rail service still lacks the trains to operate as such a process will be possible only after the construction of the Bangsue-Rangsit Red Line system is underway.

The Transport Minister said that he has instructed the State Railway of Thailand to acquire diesel trains to run on the newly-constructed tracks until the pending problem is solved.

In the meantime, the minister has asked the SRT to accelerate the construction of the Bangsue-Rangsit rail system, which is expected to cost more than 29 billion baht, as he hopes that the project’s progress will be presented for Cabinet approval soon.

BANGKOK, June 29 - His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, is paying an official visit to Thailand from today through Monday (July 2).

The four-day visit has come from the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra made during her official visit to Brunei on Sept 10 last year.

The Sultan will be granted an audience with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Chakri Maha Prasart Throne Hall in the Grand Palace on Saturday.

An official welcoming ceremony will be held late this evening at Government House, followed by bilateral discussions with Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

The intended topics of discussion include various issues of cooperation, particularly in agriculture, education, and the halal food industry.

A dinner in honour of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will be hosted by the Thai prime minister at the Outer Santi Maitri Building, Government House.

Thailand and Brunei have enjoyed excellent diplomatic relations since 1984. The frequent exchanges of high level visits in the past 28 years have helped expand cooperation between the two countries.

The official visit will provide a good opportunity for Thailand and Brunei Darussalam to further enhance their mutual cooperation for the benefit of their countries and peoples. (MCOT online news)
