The som-tam lady assures me that they've also all been promised a 'Thai Elite' card, not that their leader believes Thai elites are something for the ordinary people to aspire to, of course not, the Red Shirts are against the elite & it's a vicious rumour that DL could ever have dreamed-up such a wrong-thinking flop scheme. rolleyes.gif

I would feel like my relatives were complete idiots for following the orders of a criminal and for getting themselves killed for the return of his money. I would also feel like changing my user name from fasteddie to something more appropriate, like "Ride the small school bus Edward" or "Stumpy". I would then feel like purchasing a BMW with my dead grandmas blood money. Perhaps a Mercedes in the works since grandpas still kicking and we have more rallies to attend, YAY. Free booze and bus tickets! Yeehaw!

Yingluck was appointed PM by an elected coalition.

Abhsit was appointed PM by a judicial decision.

The rest as they say is nonsense.

They were all elected PM by elected MPs.

Abhisit was elected after PPP was dissolved by the courts, but he was still elected and elected by a majority of MPs. After the PPP was dissolved, the newly formed PTP was the caretaker government, but a PM still needed to be elected. The PTP could have called an election, but they decided to go forgo that and headed to parliament to elect a new PM with the current elected MPs. They had lost majority support, and Abhisit was elected PM.

Yingluck was elected PM after Abhisit dissolved parliament and called an election, 6 months before required. After the election, elected MPs elected Yingluck PM.

In that case don't respond. To any of my posts. Your nonsense is difficult to work through anyway.

What is nonsense about it? It's how PMs get elected. It's that simple.

Korkaew says red shirts have their rights to protest against Democrats

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai party-list MP and red-shirt leader Korkaew Pikulthong said Monday that he would not ask red-shirt people to stop opposing political activities of the Democrat Party.

Korkaew said the red-shirt people had their right to protest against the Democrat as long as they did not break the laws or lynch Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva. He was commenting an incident last week when red-shirt people surrounded a rally site of Abhisit in Pathum Thani. Korkaew said the red-shirt people were simply retaliating against Abhisit for having deployed troops to harm and kill the people when he was the prime minister. Korkaew said he did not think that protests by the red-shirt people would rekindle political violence.

Does this sound familiar? That is the topic, in case everyone's forgotten in all this excitement.

Hey, I wonder what people think about having extra privileges by wearing a Red Shirt or holding a UDD membership card grants you? Would this be okay in society? It's headed that way.

for these guys, it's very desirable to have something more than just their UDD membership card...

In Thai and English they are calling themselves “Defenders”. The badge on the sleeve says “The Democratic Defender”. On the ID, the slogan in Thai says “Defender of the People”.

Yes what you say above may have been true at a mini rally, in Samut Prakan, in 2010.

Two Years Three months later the relevance of this to the thread about red shirts have rights to protest against democrats - Zero.

But the pictures make them look menancing though don't they Buchholz, but that wasn't your point at all was it, you were merely expanding on a previous post? giggle.gif

Democratic Defender, or DD, as you may call it, does bring back some memories about the infamous SS. I bet they already have special groups for "red youth", too.

Looks like your post worked buchholz, chalk another one up.

Then came (preceded Abhisit) Thaksin's bother in law, Somchai the butterfly, who was caught red handed having an affair with a younger lady, managed to order the police to shoot the arms and legs off the peaceful yellow shirts with military grade tear gas cannisters killing a few in the process for which he has never been held accountable. He was at the helm when the PPP was found guilty of vote buying, bribing smaller parties to stand in a flawed election and other offences against democracy and humanity in general.

Yes, Somchai 'ordered' the police to blow the arms and legs off the 'peaceful' yellow shirts in the same way that Abhisit 'ordered' snipers to blow the heads off the 'peaceful' red shirts. And actually he's still on trial for it, so he is being held accountable (if you think Somchai should be on trial, Abhisit certainly should be too, guilty or not).

Also, you're clearly someone that enjoys correcting others, but you obviously don't know why PPP were banned, do you?

Then a number of 3rd party political groups saw the Thaksin-selected Somchais and Samaks on one side, the the light on the Democrats side and jumped ship.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Yes, they saw the light with no involvement from the military, 'influential persons' or money changing hands... I guess Newin switched sides because he believed Abhisit when he said that he'd take corruption seriously.

Well how far back do you want me to go? I started with the coup. We could go back to 1932 I guess.

You're confused enough.

Take 2012 and work back to 2006 first.

Is it really? I thought it wandered off down the highways and byways of history without a map and a faulty GPS.

They maybe have all the same status but only one of them was put in place by the military.

And three of them were put in place by a convict on the run.

Really, I presume you mean Thaksin? He was that powerful he put in place three Prime Ministers?. As far as I understood it, they were voted in by a mixture of people electing the MP's who voted for the PM, isn't that the way you put it when you say that Abhisit was elected, well apart from the winning an election bit that is? Lets see Voting in Parliament for PM

Samak 310, Abhisit 163 votes

Somchai 298 - Abhisit 163 votes

Yingluck 296 - Dems and others, 3 against, 197 abstained, 4 dems absent. Abhisit steps down as leader of the dems.

There's a pattern there...........

When you pay your employees you expect them to do the job they are paid to do. Right?

That's what Thaksin expects too. Why do you think he calls complaining when they err. Think Barnharn.

More work for the red shirts:

Democrats to hold 10 public meetings

BANGKOK: -- The Democrat Party will this month organise a public dialogue spreaded over 10 venues to clarify issues related to reconciliation and charter change, party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said on Tuesday.

The designated venues for dialogue will locate in Saraburi, Songkhla, Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Phuket, two provinces in the Northeast and Bangkok.

Democrat leaders will fan out to talk directly to the people in order to explain contentions issues as well as solicit the public opinions on government projects, such as the pledging scheme to shore up paddy price.

Hopefully this doesn't mean that the Bottle Throwing Union of Democratic Defenders will also be "fanning out" across the country.

How dare those Red Shirts protest. The gall of some people!

Did you miss the part about surrounding a Democrats rally? That's not protest that's intimidation.

Kerry. The red shirts did not win the last election.

And yes some of the red leadership have thuggish behavior.

"Did you miss the part about surrounding a Democrats rally? That's not protest that's intimidation."

or a counter-protest. Happens all the time in the west, too.

Really, get serious, half of the red shirt protests have yellow shirt counter protests and vice-versa.

Tom, a counter protest that involves lobbing bottles between protesters is likely to cause an escalation of unnecessary violence. If the army moves in and says "OK, enough is enough" who will be crying foul?

Just to be clear.

This wasn't a confrontation between protesters of two groups.

The throwing bottles was only one way and that was from the Red Shirts hurling bottles at a stage where a speech was being given.

It's inexcusable no matter what the effort is made to try and mask it as something else that it wasn't.

Sounds more like intimidation and harrassment than protest and the action of thugs not protestors.

PS: Tom how do you counter protest a rally?

I only found a link to a 1st of July article from the other newspaper. It describes k. Abhisit delivering a speech the day before at Chumchon Prachathipat Witthayakhan School in Rangsit with about 300 red-shirts trying to break into the compound. k. Wutthipong Kochthamakhun led the group which shouted insults at k. Abhisit and yelled for him to leave. Some threw water bottles unto the stage.

All very democratic, our right to protests against Democrats

Thai protesters have hurled plastic bags filled with gallons of blood in a symbolic protest at the prime minister’s house in Bangkok.

maybe someone would like to add a link to the bottle-throwing report.

Could be an interesting addition as it seems to be missing on TVF.

It's in the Bangkok Post Jan. 7 edition. Article entitled "Abhisit says charter rewrite aims to clear Thaksin". You will note from the article it is not a counter protest as you say. Unless what you meant has that they protested Abhisit's right to exist.

When you listen to what these red shirt "leaders" (who the hell voted for them anyway?) say, you would have to come away thinkinhg that either their brain never had a chance to develop or that someone sneaked stealthily into theit boudoir one nigh and replaced the grey matter with brown.

Is there some form of "Thug labotomy" that is available at certain participating clinics?

The nice Englishman sent snipers to the rooftops to assassinate their relatives, how would you feel?

That's a downright lie. In fact it's a bunch of downright lies.

It's not important what you think, the majority of the Thai people know what happened and they're still pretty peeved about it.

Yes the majority of the Redshirts, (not Thai people), see it that way through their redmist and they actually want an investigation and those responsable charged and punished same as Ahbisit. But they aint gonna get that because their boss, the convicted criminal and fugitive from justice, wants to trade their deaths for his amnesty.

"red-shirts" threaten rally against amnesty uea thai party list mp and "red-shirt" core leader jatuporn promphan on thursday threatened to stage protest if the government agrees to submit amnesty bill proposed by the coalition bhumjaithai party to the house of representatives.

the opposition puea thai list mp said the bill was aimed at giving amnesty to the murderers who killed "red-shirt" protesters and injured many more at ratchaprasong intersection in the capital city on may 19.

"the true intention for amnesty is to allow the murderers to go free and has absolutely no benefit for the people, be it the red- shirts or the yellow-shirts," local website the nation quoted him as saying.

he warned the "red-shirts" not to fall into a trap, and called on them to get ready to turn out to rally against the amnesty bill.

http://wwv.onote-art...te-articles_46/

Thaksin Shinawatra could not have been a happy man this week: the single-minded drive by his proxy government to deliver a much-desired amnesty has hit a nasty bump...... after having completely reneged on a promise to hold public hearings on the matter. Feeling the bill was being rammed down their collective throats, the opposition Democrats snapped, creating havoc in the House, forcing the vote to be postponed by a day.........

The question is, why did the PT (and behind them, the government and Thaksin himself) suddenly feel the need to rush their reconciliation/amnesty bill so quickly and without any public hearings? The probable answer is that Thaksin, who is widely acknowledged to lead the government from abroad, is in a state of panic. During his address to red shirt supporters on May 19, he urged them to effectively let go of their grievances and move on. It was widely assumed the reason behind the speech was Thaksin had reached an understanding with the military and other key players that would facilitate his return toThailand, which included Thaksin urging his supporters to “forgive” the powers-that-be and cause them no further trouble. PM Yingluck’s visit earlier that month to Prem the red-shirt bogeyman and the very embodiment of the “elites”, was part of the new détente.
