Moving To Phuket - Help?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm Alex (new to the forum!) - I'm female, 20 years old, and a UK national.

I want to move to Phuket in August till February-ish. I've got teaching experience and my TEFL/letters of recommendation but no degree, I've also got F&B experience, worked as a bar supervisor/done 5* service etc (but obviously I'm not a Thai national..)

What's going to be my best bet of getting a visa/some income over there? I'd prefer to be working in a hotel/restaurant but haven't had any positive replies so far.

Also heard about the ED Visa? I wouldn't mind learning Thai - but would I still be able to private tutor and things? Need the income for rent etc.

Just got a lot of questions really! I need to fly to Phuket via Saigon, don't suppose anyone knows the best airline to look at for that too?

Thanks a million.

Alex.

Hi Alex, Welcome

There are a number of Visas that would meet your requirements ED or Triple Entry Tourist springs to mind there is loads of info here or look up the UK consulate Hull for more details, your main problem would be funding your stay through work.

Hotels, bars and restaurants are virtually no go as you wouldn't be employed to work in any casual labour that a Thai National can do.

All work requires a work permit. It is illegal to work without one and can cause no end of problems if you do and are caught!!

Would think a number of Airlines fly to Vietnam from the Uk again you will need to search to find the right price for you.

Okay, thanks for replying. Definitely an uphill battle at the minute.

Where do internships stand on visa grounds? I've applied for one so got my hopes on that really.

I've flew UK-Vietnam before so that isn't the problem, it was the Vietnam-Phuket I was unsure of :)

Just sent you a PM......

The definition of work in Thailand is very broad and it includes work without any remuneration - so pretty much what ever you do requires a work permit, plus the correct visa to get the WP in the first place.

No visa allows you to work per se, for that you must have a Work Permit.

ED is not just for Thai, some have managed to do all sorts of training on an ED visa, but they were generally paying to learn, not really an internship.

You would need an employer's support to get a Work Permit.

Vietnam - Air Asia to BKK or KL then KUL - HKT or BKK - HKT.

will be difficult for you to get job here! get your degree on the university first then you can come over and work as a teacher!

maby you can get a "dancing job" together with the russian ladies..clap2.gif

You should be able to find a teaching job. You do not need a university degree as others may tell you. I am a prime example of someone who was teaching with only a diploma and no tesol course. Native English speaker is the key and some experience counts for a lot. Half of the people teaching here do not have degrees, and many of the people that do, have degrees that have nothing to do with teaching. A degree may earn you a little more than without, but that is about it.
