Thailand Plans Atmospheric Studies, Without Nasa: Plodprasop

We have China.

Who need the Yankee?

For every post here on TV I am never quite sure if it is a:

1. Standard troll post

2. An actual point of view. If so some would be truly frightening

3. A bit of ironic piss taking

Decisions decisions.....

There is an old Chinese saying:

It is better to have a good neighbor (near where you live), than a close relation living far away.

And USA isn't exactly a friendly country while China is trying to make friends everywhere.

Perhaps this Thai controlled "study" will give Thailand an opportunity to deny that it is a major source of air pollution?

Maybe I'm a cynic, but I think one of the reasons behind the decision is that no one wants to learn about the damage Thailand is causing to the environment with its massive slash and burn activity, or its discharge of chemicals into the air. If the damage is not identified, no one needs to do anything about it since it "does not exist."

Maybe the neighbors are concerned too

Only the Thais can have the courage, creativity and absolute moronic power to try to convince it's own people and the world it can do the job of NASA in atmospheric studies with their royal turbo prop super thai plane. Yes the power is out in many homes in America due to the extreme heat and thunderstorms but lets take a real close look at power grids in Thailand and how they seem to assemble their chaotic spaghetti wiring overhead with power going out in various parts of the country at odd hours.

Thailand's advanced rocket science will also be used to undertake telemetery of the inner reaches of outer space.

Yer killin me...

There's certainly a lot of hot air emitted by the likes of Plodprasop which could well be dangerous if allowed to linger long in the atmosphere.

Nasa, I'm sorry you couldn't come to Thailand, but perhaps it would be better if you looked in your own backyard first- millions of Americans are without power as we speak due to the storms in the east.

Temperatures are in the 30s so it must be a very unpleasant time for those affected.

What does NASA have to do with local utilities in the storm affected USA? Power utilities are the responsibility of the the local municpalities, counties, and states. NASA is a federal agency and as such has nothing to do with state managed facilities.

Yes, so temperatures are in the 30's. Big deal. What did Americans used to do in 1912? It's in the 30's on most parts of the world too. You don't see Africans, or SE Asians or Polynesians moaning and groaning about the heat do you?

Further studies by Nasa could hopefully ensure a better warning system or forecast so the good citizens of USA have time to prepare for the coming storm

Do African Americans complain about the heat or is it only white ones?

Yo, did i miss sumthin here yaall..

Especially if said neighbor is acquiescent, intellectually deficient, and full of resources for the motherland. China isn't foolish. It wants to be friends, just like the US, with major food and energy producing neighbors. Just friends. Hey buddy, can I have a little of your lunch? I promise you increased "coolness" in the local community.

Will probably just tie a digital thermometer with max/min temperature memory to a helium-filled birthday balloon and then chase the balloon across Bangkok to its landing point to recover the instrument package (thermometer). In follow-on missions the instrument package will include a smartphone with its camera taking timed shots--much cheaper than satellite pictures and better resolution.

Or, they can just wet their fingers and stick it up in the wind. Yep, that's it. The wind is blowing from somewhere to my right.

Will the smartphones just broadcast porn from MPs' phones?

Sometimes you have to wonder if this stuff could be handled any worse. Saying "no" or "yes" really wouldn't have been bad relatively speaking. Yet they kinda say nothing, and then afterwards come out saying they will study it themselves?! This would be the equivalent of brain surgeons stopping in the middle of surgery, and having a bunch of preschoolers take over. AND, the Thais would have to fund it. I mean it is just the most ridiculous set of actions you could take short of declaring war over this or something. I mean these are the folks that put the first man on the moon, that have successfully manned and operated space stations and the hubble telescope. This isn't just some ordinary organization of scientists they had the opportunity to work with. Oh well.

And they wonder why the rest of the world dosen't beat a path to there door for their scientific expertise.

In many ways they are so far behind that they think they are first.

I don't hear much about Singapore or Laos asking for Thai tablet PCs either.

One thing about these proposed spending projects that politicians announce, they do that to get the info spread in the news...Thais hear/read this news and many will think its good as implemented/going to happen/is already underway...maybe makes them feel happy and/or proud. Then of course nothing really happens...the project is never funded...it just fades in the memory, but that does not make the news. So, the politicians really got what they wanted: some propaganda spread which makes them look good in the mind of some people.

Definition of propaganda according to Wikipedia: Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position. Propaganda is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media in order to create the chosen result in audience attitudes.

Propaganda; Did you just discover this word and you thought you might share it! Why did you not see fit to fully educate us all. I shall fill in the blanks for you. Neo-Latin, short for congregātiō dē propāgandā fidē (congregation for propagating the faith); ablativesingular feminine gerundive of propāgāre; (propagate). Not from Wikipedia. So all down to religious zealots then!

NASA spent 10 million dollars researching a pen that would write under water, upside down and in zero gravity. The Russians meanwhile use a pencil.

NASA spent years planning and budgeting for the 2012 SEAC4RS project. Thailand has Plodprasop

I'd rather use a $10m pen.

Thailand doesn't need those high flying space planes to see if they are being impacted by radiation and other contaminants from Japan, China, Burma, etc. and do something about it. They need to be testing the soil, fish, food, water, etc all over Thailand to see if and where radiation or other contaminants are running off, collecting and concentrating so they can understand it, clean it up and take diplomatic action with the offending originators of the contaminants.

I swear to this...I asked many Thai people in Pattaya what caused high tide and they said RAIN and never heard of lunar effect.

Imagine how this atmospheric study will do.

They cant land a helicopter without crashing.

To be honest, there is a large section of the Thai population that are very uneducated, not stupid by any means, but haven't been enabled.

My ex swore blind that the sun in the UK was not the same as the sun in Thailand, reason being, it wasn't in the same place at the same time when she called home, and it wasn't as hot, you cannot argue with that reasoning based on the poor education she received as a kid.

I'll bet that the Thai scientists who were looking forward to working with one of the world's most prestigious organisations are really pleased that a donkey in a suit has come up with Plan B.

That proves that the people you asked are poorly educated - nothing else. We've just had 2 Tornados crash in the UK. They weren't even trying to land.

O M G ....I am agreeing with a GK post. Nice one, that thought had not occurred to me. Better to keep blaming Burma instead of having the NASA publish exact photos showing the extensive burning in Thailand.

Agreed, they must be over the moon.

I get high tide, well not really, as I understood concept when 7 or 8, but the sun. Common. Not sure I would spread that one around. These people would have to watch cartoons 24/7 and never read anything but comic books to not know that.

Umm... Exactly which part of your statement is an exaggeration?

I would hope both were exagerations, but thinking there are multiple suns is analogous to believing the world is flat. Actually, maybe worse.

That assumes that you've had an education which explains the solar system. If you work in the fields and leave school at 12 that education probably isn't available to you. You were taught about the solar system at school? The concept of one sun and time zones didn't spring full formed into your brain without explanation?

I suggest you get hold of 'In My Grandmother's House' by Sorasing Kaowai. It's the story of a boy growing up in a remote village in Thailand. When you've read it perhaps you might understand a little more about Thailand.
