SWEDISH GOVERNMENT TO DISCUSS SELLING WARPLANES TO THAILAND

The Swedish government plans to discuss selling warplanes to Thailand, while pledging to give support to Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathienthai's (สุรเกียรติ เสถียรไทย) run for the U.N. secretary-general post.

Mr. Lars Danielsson, the deputy minister to the Swedish Prime Minister's Office, is representing the Swedish government in conferring with Thailand on the issue of selling fighter planes to the latter. The Swedish government has proposed barter trading be used in the scheme, and Mr. Lars said he hoped the Thai government would agree to the idea.

Mr. Lars also said that Sweden was ready to support Mr. Surakiart's run for the post of the secretary-general of the United Nations, due to the long relations between the two countries, and remarked that he himself had met with Mr. Surakiart before.

So the Svenskes, who make good planes by the way, are willing to back Surakiart's never ending campaign for UN Sec-Gen, an outcome that is as likely to happen as Bangkok getting the next available Olympic Games. And, now for the bad news for the Thai people, they will consider "barter" in the scheme, wihich usually means the price for 10% kickback to the Thai government officials and Air Force generals will be financed by lower prices paid by the Thai government for the agricultural products to be bartered.

Didn't Thailand want to buy fighter planes from Sweden last year and wanted to pay part of the sum in chicken?

And didn't Thailand just recently finish a deal with Russia about buying fighter planes?
