I have been living in Thailand 6 month every year. I have invest nearly 5 million bath in property. Now I am feed up on all corruption in Thailand and specially the police who can stopp people and ask for many without any reason and if you don´t pay them they make your live unhappy. If you shall keep the european tourist then you first have to look after all corruption.

I am now leaving Thailand forever and I am not alone. There are so many tourist which have lost all their money in Thailand because of the corruption.

Goodbye. coffee1.gif

quantity is up, but quality is down. We are getting more lower grade tourists, looking for 'value for money' vacation.

Well lets all hope they all go to Pattaya and Phuket, and stay away from everywhere else. Didn't know that Pattaya had anything other than "lower grade tourists".

Agreed.thumbsup.gif

No, it's just you. I am at that age where I go to funerals. Hundreds of Thai people go to popular Farang men's funerals. They were fathers, or husbands or friends. Most here for a long time.

I don't like Phuket. I like Pattaya. I assume you have never lived in Pattaya. We didn't miss you. laugh.png

Hahaha !!!! Sometime you need to take a sort of macro view here. Think of the tourists here as gazelles. Think of the police and all the scams they fail to stop as the lions. So the job of the lions is to thin the weak and crippled gazelles from the herd, thus leaving the supple and swift gazelles to continue the herd. And thus nature is in balance.......No wait a second....... Come to think of it, even the crippled gazelles must spend money, so maybe a bad idea to drive them out with scams.

On a side note am always amazed at the trash on the beach given the billions of baht that Pattaya pulls in. I took some fotos on the beach in Jomtien of a friend, and had to sort of move the trash away from her feet to make a better shot..

Take a bus or taxi south of Pattaya and look at the new hotel construction and the new condo construction and the new house construction and the new towns being built; if you want to see where the money goes. There are tens of thousands of new rooms going up. The only thing I can think is they know legal gambling is coming. The word I hear is the high speed rail is close. The track and route and stations are already there from the old railroad. The railroad company already owns the land on both sides of the old track.

The thrilling prospect of an extended Pattaya is absolutely palpable. sick.gif

Except in the rather myopic world of Thai Visa Pattaya has a stellar reputation as a tourist/meeting destination. Silver Lake Winery is beautiful. I believe there are more hotel rooms in the Pattaya area than for example Chicago.

"According to Mrs. Jutporn, the TAT has also reported that many foreign tourists opted to visit Thailand instead of the United States or Africa, which is a good opportunity for the Thai tourism to thrive"

What a ridiculous statement. According to Mr. Jutporn's logic, every tourist who visited some place else, opted for those places instead of Thailand, which is a good opportunity for the rest of the world's tourism to thrive. The headline could have easily been: "Tens of millions of tourists choose not to visit Thailand".

Due to what tragically happened on PhiPhi and on Phuket I think a lot of canadians and Australians would think twice before comming here.

Well I agree those are good ideas. But I hardly think think they will attract more tourists. 150 baht fee at a ATM is hardly a stopper to a tourist and most tourists do not look for a country based on the cost of the Visa or how long they an stay for free. Traveling around Thailand is inexpensive and there are lots and lots of places that are inexpensive to stay in and eat at.

You are right the rich will come regardless of price but there is all ready plenty of rooms vacant for them and lots of golf courses that you don't have to book a week ahead of to get a Tee off time. Also the Spa's are not over flowing with tourists.

What would help is a drive to promote back packers by pointing out the cheaper accommodations and food and the free sights. As well as the beauty of the country. The Thai are a very friendly people and will treat you well. The people who only stay in the tourist areas meet only the Thai's who depend on them for a living. Meet the rest of the people. Promote Thailand don't whine about 150 baht ATM card payments there are other parts of the world where that is happening. Don't pay them put your money in a Thai bank and use their ATM card at their banks and you won't have to pay a baht for them.

The cost of a Visa is cheap and gives you 30 days that is long enough for most tourists. If they want more there are 60 day and multiple reentry visas.

Personally you sound like some one trying to live here with out the qualifications required to do so.

In case there is a crisis? Think this plan is a little late

Thailand should focus on what they need to attract tourists

Get rid of scams and mafia style operators, more tourist attractions

such as large scale casinos and amusement parks and water parks.

Instead Thailand is stuck in same old same old

Large scale casinos, and all it's attendant problems, and no wait ha ha, 'amusement' parks, and water parks. Where do you think this is? Bloody Blackpool?

No it is bloody 40,000 rooms now and 20,000 in the building process Pattaya! Have you looked at Singapore lately? As soon as Thailand comes to it's senses and leases out the management of the country to Singapore it will take off.
