From The nation :

Former foreign minister Kasit Piromya urged the Foreign Ministry and the United States yesterday to clarify a claim that ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra was given a visa to enter the US a few months ago.

...

"We have always given the US our cooperation. If the US does not cooperate with us [and extradite Thaksin], we must condemn and all Thais must sever ties with the US,'' he said.

The first things that comes to mind is what an embarrassment this guy is to Thailand. A few days ago Abhisit was publicly defending his decision to appoint Kasit as foreign minister http://www.thaivisa....ts-appointment/ It really shows a lack of judgement from K. Abhisit side to appoint such a nutcase to represent Thailand abroad. And serious disrespect for Thailand foreign partner.

Then you better understand America's position that only since PT election victory last year, they feel comfortable to resume privileged collaboration with Thailand. We can't really blame them when them, can we ?

Of course, Thaksin could just have a leftover visa in his passport, one that is still valid. He passport hasn't been in U.S. hands for actual physical cancellation since he was ousted in 2006.

However, it's ICE (half of the former INS) that actually determines who is let in to the U.S., not an overseas Consulate, they just do a sort of weeding, pre-screening, then issue a visa.

What the visa does is absolve the airline from any liability for transporting a person to the U.S. who's subsequently rejected by ICE for entry.

In any case, I'd still like to hear something from State or the Embassy here about his eligibility to enter the U.S. given his sentence of two years in the Crowbar Hotel. Has this been waived?

This thread is not about Thaksin visa, this is already discussed in a couple of other threads.

But about the preposterous remark from a former foreign minister that Thailand should sever ties with the USA. Because it shows how little grasp on reality some conservative extremists have.
