Advice Requested For Buying Gps

Featured Replies

I need to buy a good GPS today (Phuket). I've read though a few threads here and ended up just a fraction confused. All I need is a unit that comes pre-loaded with English, gives good audible directions and can be temporarily mounted on my windscreen. Freely updatable maps would be nice, but not essential. Basically, I wat to be able to take it out of the box and use it without having to muck around. Also, it needs to be easily available (Big C, Tesco or that sort of place). Price no object.

Please note that I must buy it today, so if you are reading this after 8 July - too late.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks - Ping.

I would go for a Nuvi Garmin with ESRI Maps. (Hassle free and the best map for Thailand)

You can see if it's done by ESRI, by looking at the following:

1- During start up the GPS will give you info about the installed Map's (look for GIS DATA (ESRI))

2- In Settings, System there is an about button, click that and you will find info about the MAPS (Again look for ESRI (btw latest version is 12.1)

3- On the back of the GPS there should be a sticker, which says Certified by ESRI Thailand.

Also have a look at http://www.eaglegps.co.th/ and you can orientate yourself a bit on the devices that are available (Look for Nuvi http://www.eaglegps.co.th/index.php/lang-en/car-navigation)
