Chon Buri Hospital

My Thai wife's brother was recently transferred by Bunglamung Hospital to Chon Buri Hospital for more specialised treatment. Even though she was only there a short time my wife was appalled by the way the staff treated patients and signed him out. We are now taking him to the "Red Cross" hospital in Sri Racha that we have used before and have good professional doctors and staff.

I've heard this is where penniless farang end up up and are regularly wheeled onto the lawns at night.

Obviously this doesn't do a lot for their health. True or not I hope I never find out.

In actual fact my wife did mention she saw an elderly farang at Chon Buri Hospital who appeared to be very ill and on his own.

i spent 4 months in there .. i don't no about penniless because it cost me over a million baht ... yes not a very nice place and the staff can be rude but some are also very nice ..

Chonburi Hospital is a government hospital and can in no way be compared to any other hospital in the region.

Staff is often low paid, but are as qualified as any other hospital-staff in the region.

I used to be a daily visitor for almost 4 weeks and yes, the place looks like an abbatoir, but hey, everything is low-budget; patients as well as care.

It's very hard to believe that patients are shoved onto the lawn at night..........it happens (a lot) that friends and relatives of patients spend the night in the corridors and just outside the hospital.

i never got pushed out onto any lawn .. but you are right there is sleeping for relatives at the back of the hospital which is outside my wife stayed there many a nights when i was on the ward ... goverment hospital it maybe but i'm not sure where they get they prices from for us fulangs i think they phone the BPH up .. one week my bill was 98,000 baht because i was put in ICU because the surgeon messed my operation up by wrongly cutting into my spleen ......

Further to my original post, we took my wife's brother to Sri Racha Red Cross hospital today and great service. With x-ray, blood tests, medicine and meeting with specialist, total cost was $2800 baht. Next step is ultra ultrasonic scans for liver and heart (multiple issues), quoted cost 1,800 baht. Subject to the outcome of the heart scan looks like he will need a pacemaker. But, procedure can only be done at Chon Buri Hospital, excluding the very expensive hospitals used by well off Thais and expats - so if necessary will provide a private room for him.
