Do you think it's too late for a Thai friend to make an Olympic tourist application? Unfortunately this friend only recently got permission for 2 weeks off work. We have tickets for events etc but just wondering if a) the border agency will think the application is too late and B) will it be processed in time?

Nope! They will process it in the normal way!

As long as your friend meets all the requirements for a visit visa it should not be a problem. Include copies of the tickets in addition to all the other paperwork.

It ticks the purpose of the visit box perfectly so you just have to show affordability and reasons to return!

Thanks Bob! All the paperwork is ok - we were just worried about the time factor. Has interview next week, so fingers crossed.

Might have a bit of traouble getting a room over that time.

Accommodation is all sorted! Friend is more worried about getting a flight!

The general consensus is that the numbers coming over will be far fewer than forecast and the availability of accommodation will not be a problem. Prices are expected to drop as well!

It may be that last minute flights will be OK as well although it is school holidays. It may be that flights leaving the UK will be busier than those coming in (non-Olympic fan here!).

Could land in Europe and travel by surface transport, though that will mean getting a Schengen visa, or fly to Birmingham/Manchester etc.. The London airports will be busier and flights expensive.

Judging by the reports LHR is getting really bad, now reports of 2 hours delays and slow handclapping...

Birmingham, has decent rail connections, you can get to Euston in under 90 mins from BHX, travelling via BHX you probabley could be in Central London long before you would get to the luggage carasel at LHR.
