July 12, 201213 yr My daughter is just over one year old, and yesterday we noticed her left fore arm was getting swollen. By nighttime it was very tight. I looks like she has a bite mark on the under side of her forearm but it might be unrelated. The strongest swelling is on the upper portion of her forearm it is now swelling so much much that an area of it is weeping. It is not hot and doesn't appear to be an infection. We are way out in the sticks and the doctors at the hospital an hour away generally are incredibly useless. They just hand out the same medicine and say little or nothing when we go. So I thought I might get some help here before we start driving and looking for intelligent medical help. What can I give her for the swelling.
July 12, 201213 yr Find a good doctor , it may be anything from a red ant or spider bite that people are very allergic to.
July 12, 201213 yr Seeing as your daughter is so young, I would get her to a hospital if you can. You don't want to take chances with such a young child. All the best! I'm sorry I cannot offer any medical advice.
July 12, 201213 yr are her fingers swollen as well? they could (also) look for the heart(function), imo... Edited July 12, 201213 yr by dingdang
July 12, 201213 yr Author She has no other swelling other than being a typical baby shape. It also does not seem to be causing her pain or affecting her attitude. We will go to a doctor in the morning, they are not there today. But is there anything to take down swelling of an insect bite?
July 12, 201213 yr You can apply ice or very cold compresses. It may be cellulitis, a soft tissue infection, and you need to get "intelligent medical help" promptly.
July 12, 201213 yr Try piriton syrup it is an anti-histamine and good for treating such things. Anti-histamines are great for short-term swelling, or taken very very early in the process (usually before swelling). I don't think it would help at this stage, but on the flipside anti-histamines have practically no side-effects so you won't lose anything by trying.
July 13, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the posts, Sheryl was right and it was an infection. We had a local medical person look at it yesterday, he put her on Amoxycilan and we took her to the hospital today, but of course by the time we got there the symptoms were disappearing. Just like bringing you car to a mechanic, The thing you want them to check never happen when they are looking. Anyhow, she had a good day with us in the city and she should be just fine. Here's her pic
