Featured Replies

Does anyone know if an appointment is need to renew a passport?

Thanks for the reply, just wanted to double check as my cousin renewed his a couple months ago and told me he did not need an appointment.

I needed an appointment for my passport renewal a year ago. Appointments have been the norm for over two years.

whistling.gif Yes...you need an appointment for just about any embassy business now....since sometime in 2011 it is required.

You can make an appointment on-line....go to the U.S. embassy web site....American Citizen Services or ACS is what you want.

Also, be aware, NOTHING is free any longer.

To renew your passport now costs...I believe....$82. You can pay in dollars or Baht (at their official rate).

So expect to pay...I think the cost is stated in dollars on the ACS web page where you make your appintment.

It has never been free - believe you are talking about extra pages which is a different subject.

It's the extra pages that are now $82, formerly free.

It's $110 for a new replacement passport: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/passports.html

A caution here: Watch out for the size of the photo you get. They lay a template on it, mine barely fit. Would have blown another hour probably if I'd had had to go over to the shops across Wireless and get a new set.

And, check how many pages are available in a new passport, seems to me there's two sizes available. My current passport has 48 pages, plus I added two sets of extra pages just before the cost went from free to $82.

Where did you get your photos taken? I have feeling mine a little too big,

Or just do yourself - you can then size it correctly when printing. Have done for last two passports without any issues.

Here is a site with instructions and picture size requirements by country:

Did my photos at Future Park Rangsit, a FUJI photo outlet.

Just get out your measuring stick and check:

Thanks, my photo is actually 2x2 but they focused on my face. Compared to my previous one as well as samples on the website, I think they might of zoomed in too much.

Have a look at this file from embassy website for translators and photographers. Both photographers are on wireless road near embassy.

Thank for the link, might be best to do it at one of those shops. Know they can be pretty strict with the photos.

Be careful outside the immediate Embassy area getting done at commercial facilities. I tried a handful before doing myself. They all processed with blue background (even when I changed screen during photo to white it would be changed to print as blue).
