Bangkok Sinking? - What About Property

Recommended Posts

Venice is built on wooden piles-as a consequence it can and probably will sink.

To my knowledge Bangkok is built on Terra Firma.

I think more likely that the river is rising. This is consequence of several factors. Up stream industrialization has no doubt made a negative contribution .

They just have to find ways to improve drainage into the bay.

Easier said then done.

Take a drive past Don Muang under the elevated section and as you pass each of the support columns you will see that the columns are piled and rafted. they are staying pretty much where they are, however you will notice that surrounding the pillars the whole road area has dropped about 12 to 15 inches and where the road surface caps the rafts they have had to scrape off that 12 to 15 inches to level the surface again. That's what I would call sinking. Sea levels are rising but not as fast as BKK is going in the other direction.
