I have been looking around for insurance for my wife to go to Europe for a holiday (required by German Embassy before they issue Shengen). We have only been in UK for a few weeks. She is on a spouse settlement visa.

All the policies that I have come across so far have stated in their terms and conditions that you have to have been resident in the UK for at least 6 months before they will insure you. Or they charge crazy prices

Does anyone know of a company UK or Thai that would insure my wife here in the UK for a reasonable ammount now as we wish to go to mainland Euope before the end of the summer.

No, but I know an American company that will give her medical insurance. Google 'HCC Medical Insurance Services'. The German embassy in Bangkok quickly ticked it through when I applied for the German Schengen visa there.

It does not cover flight delay or cancellation and it's not expensive. It can be micro-tailored to your journey/destination on the internet and is easy to buy with a credit card too.

It does include, rather curiously, some nominal ($250 per insured) baggage cover. As it happens I am currently claiming against the policy and against Germanwings as that airline lost my Thai wife's bag between Koln and Stanstead. HCC MIS have been helpful and have not sought to avoid the claim so far. They even suggested I made two claims, since my step-daughter was also insured even though I had told them that my daughter had nothing missing. Germanwings, on the other hand, having invited the claim, are now simply ignoring my requests for a status update 2 months later. Schweinhund!
