any recommendation for bike mechanics for 2 strokers? honest, reasonable charge. hopefully i could get back within a week or so

im looking to do up my tzm150. the engine is seize, need towing service as well. just need a fresh new piston and rings, and preferably a sleeve as well. might just do up the carb as well. its a bonus if some basic english is spoken but not a must.

On Mahidol road before Robinson airport (pass the corner of Suan Prung hospital and go direction to Robinson airport after pass a few orange stall shops you will see a motorbike repair shop on the left side).

Another one is on Chang Phuak road before Kuangsing intersection on the right side, the name is Yong Yut motor.

On the road to Doi Saket, pass the 121 intersection, after 1km on the left is a PTT station. Directly opposite is Rung Rueng, they specialise in modifying bikes for off road use, but are better than most at anything.

Anyone got a recommendation for a mechanic who can do a good job on 250cc bikes. Not a main dealer (got nothing against them, just need something else)?

On Canal Rd. just south of Mae Hia market, next door to the big Bridgestone Tire shop. A-Bike is the name, A is the owner. He speaks pretty good English and works on small as well as big bikes. I've been going to him for a couple of years and have seen other foreigners there. He rebuilt my Nouvo engine for 5000B. Has always treated me very fairly.

My favourite mechanic for any bike is Khun Neung on the Hang Dong Road just past the Big C on other side of Hang Dong - on the way to San Patong. He looks after my CB 400, and a few other big bikes as well as anything on 2 wheels. He is honest, excellent quality, good English. He does pick ups (picked me up from near Pai when my generator packed in). He still uses his first ever bike - 20 year old 2 stroke. Also has a flying Suzuki 150 2 stroke that is ancient but pristine. And about 10 trial bikes that he maintains for Northern Trials club - he was Thailand Trials champ for 3 years running. He re-builds bikes from frame out, and does good deals and good work. He is a carburetor genius too. Best go and see him and decide what you think. Phone him on 081-724-7172.

Thanks CBR250, will check him out once I get my bike back from where it is now. No doubt they won't have fixed the problem/caused another.

Many speak highly of Joe, however try and get your bike in there, he always says too busy, I was told to check back the following year though he seems to take in old customers. Ray Shop is a very good Thai mechanic, go away from the moat up Chang Puak, turn L at the bus station intersection, then R at first small intersection, he is down the road a little on the L. He speaks some English and can fix anything plus the charges are reasonable. Last I saw he was restoring some 1906 English engine, plus does lots of old BMW, chopper etc restores. Can't find a part, he will.

Hi CBR250, I tried to find this mechanic today but had no luck. Is Khun Neung close to the Big C past Hang Dong? Or is his shop much further down. Also is the shop actually on the roadside of the hwy 108, any signs on the shop or landmarks? I might try to locate him on google street view before i try to find him again. Any extra info you could give would be great! Thanks in advance.

i ended up doing my top overhaul in one of the local bike shop around tanin market area. it was 3000 + baht inclusive of labor, bloody cheap for a piston replacement. before that, i was looking for afew bigger reputable shop but most of them seems to incline more towards bigger and modern bikes

eventually i faced a carb problem and got it fixed at one of the recommended bike shop mentioned above, Ray bike shop. He is a very good and honest mechanic, i had been there at least 4 times and every single thing im there, he would be fixing up some bigger choppers and some really rare bikes around here. he must be highly recommended among the local vintage big bikes forum, i always seem him doing work on boxer engines. suspect the r75. he is really just the man to look for, for complete overhaul for bigger older rare bikes.

just a note, his shop isn't as clean as some of the sparkling pretentious bigger bike workshops

Sorry - been a while since I re-visited this thread. His shop can't be seen from the road - it is behind his parents' spirit house display. But if you head south from BigC Hang Dong he is about 500 meters along on opposite side of the road. He is very friendly, so I imagine if you call him first to arrange it he will come out the front and wave, or jump up and down or something.
