Most & Least Respected Foreigners In Thailand

Featured Replies

no mention of the term - puu-yai-angrit? meaning a proper Englishman.

pretty sure thais consider themselves above burmese, people from laos (laotians?), and cambodians.

I think the only case where the respect/disrespect is much deserved is with the Japanese, from my experience, they do a very good job of being tourists. (Polite)

Is that a bit like poo-dee Angrit (English Gentleman)?

I probably got it wrong.

Americans tip a lot, so they must be popular.

I have a friend who is a butler at the Banyon Tree in Phuket. She told me that hands down, the biggest tippers are Russian. Americans are a distant second. Chinese are about the worst.

Don't know what that all means, but I have to admit that I was surprised that the Russians tip the most.

LOL....Australians dont get a mention here....because they dont tip...LOLOLOLOL

I asked some educated Thai friends this morning and they said American generally are disrespected as they seem to think they shouldn't have to learn a new language(absurd I know)

Which part is absurd?

I think the general stereotype of Americans is true. Most are resistant to learning languages. I also understand not being respected for that.

Be fair - they can hardly speak English, so what chance have they got learning a language of a land that 99.9999% of them could point to on a map.

My boss doesn't like anybody and she doesn't restrict it to race or nationality.

She doesn't like Australians, Americans, Brits or Europeans. She looks down on any other Asian group, especially those from the neighboring countries. She considers the Chinese to be loud and impolite and Koreans don't fare any better. Indian and Arabs and Africans are so far down on her page that they don't deserve a mention. She also doesn't like ladyboys, gays, old people, fat people or other women who look what she refers to as 'sexy'.

I once asked her if there is anything she does like and she said yes. She likes Jews. I said Jews? She said yes, and then told me to go and get her an Orange Jews.

I would say that Americans are generally seen as being a cut above the rest.

Least respected are probably the English whistling.gif

Actually, not only the Thai, but most of the World word agree that the Americans are the cr譥 de la cr譥 of society.

Thats got to be the funniest joke today! LMAO

Actually, not only the Thai, but most of the World word agree that the Americans are the crème de la crème of society.

Just repairing the original quote ... sarcasm is often lost on the American Culture ... but we have discussed this at length before.

Most respected - Americans and Canadians (Thais do not know the difference). They are most respected because the Thai's limited social and personal skills can not see past the gushing fake niceness and can certainly not detect irony or the blatant hypocrisy that come hand in hand with being American.

Actually ... job well done ... except for one word.

Most respected desired - Americans and Canadians.

For me, don't mistake the desire to be with someone with the respect that is accorded.

Sometimes, someone is desired to be with someone because of what he can contribute give ... but that money does not buy respect, only time 'spent' with that person.

Did the Scots not rate a mention?

And for the KIWI's ... they are thought of as Aussies also?

Still ... great post BTW

How dare anybody say that Thai people are racialistic. They are not. Period. They are nice people. As long as you have the right amount of money, they (whether a thai man, woman, boy, girl, thai chinese, isaan, luk-kreung) will lick your unwashed dick even if u are a white fugitive, a black drug dealer, a sadistic stinking middle-eastern, a low caste Chinese, a racialistic and dominating Korean, an exploting Japanese who think thais are dogs or a loud moutn Indian who loves to bargain,

Get Real......its not the issue of racialism....rather money......I have seen some of the wealthiests Indians in Bangkok who cntrol a lot of fashion brands, hotels, real estate, etc being pampered by the locals......why....money.

Oh The Buddha (is to a certain Indian though he was from nepal) and so are most of the deities that Thai pray to ie Lord Ganesh, Ma Uamdevi, Lord Indra, Tne Trimurti Shrine at cebtralworld, the four-face buddha (whish is actually the Hindu Lord Brahma) etc......only shows that if you are an Indian with money flowing from your dick, the thais will workship you while saying that they hate Indians.

PS: By the way, a lot is omiteed from thai history books but not from the World Heritage and also other sources, long long agao, Thailand was part of an Indian Kingdom , so was much of South East Asia and . The thais got their alphabet styles and a lot of Royal parctices and also brahmic rites from the Indians but they hate Indians.

Also, this is not true but just my opinion, the real thais are a race that came about as the "Dirty" Indians Races were fuc..... the "Dirty" Chinese races eaons ago.......lol! (PS; No ill intent meant at the Indains or Chinese....I actually respect them more than the thais.)

Like the Thais, I respect people who can get their point across politely, and without causing offence except where it was specifically intended.

I think this thread has gone a bit too far. Per forum rules:

7) Not to post slurs or degrading comments directed towards any group on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

This has obviously been broken a number of times here.
