Phishing By Someone On Classified Thai Visa

I put up a Nikon camera for sale last week and got a reply from a 'FB' living in the US I'd put up the original advert with the offer to pay by bank transfer, thinking, of course of an ATM type transaction here in Thailand.

FB seemed keen to but the camera, didn't quibble about the price. I said I'd get postage costs to the US. I gave him several options. Rapidly he got back to me, not saying which one he wanted and asked for my bank details again.

I got a bit suspicious as he simply seemed keen to get my bank details and the name I was to send it to in the Us wasn't his it was an 'MT', so I sent an invoice via PAYPALand then the fun started. I got two emails in my SPAM box ( I have a gmail account wonderful Gmail!!) They purported to come from Paypal. The first said FB was verified, the second said that under new rules the payment was being held until I sent a copy of the posting receipt, then the money would be released. I'd never heard of that before.There was an contact email address on the second 'paypal' I entered that and up flashed another red warning from Gmail ( Gmail is GREAT!!), suggesting the site was a phishing site.

FB has sent me another email asking me to post the camera, I'm just thinking just what to say, but it will upset him I'm sure

I posted this earlier but the moderators sensibly removed it as I had left my full name on one one the JPEGS, I'll post some bits, but without any identification

So folks, look out, Paypal seems safe, giving out bank details may not be.

Can anyone tell me what the risk is if someone gets hold of your ( in my case) BKK savings account numbers, your email address and your full name? I can't see what they might do next

Yup, that return address of pay_palalert[at]officeemail.net is a give-away, Google the address (with an @ instead of [at]) and you get literally dozens of hits regarding scams.

All my contact with PayPal has come from service[at]intl.paypal.com but I suspect there will be small variations depending where your PP account is based.

Unless you can see the funds by logging on to your PP account steer well clear, even if the funds are available it's not unknown for scammers to reverse the transaction once you've sent the item.

I wrote to 'FB' saying I've posted the camera, but that the receipt is attached to the parcel and anyway it is in Thai. ( Not true of course, just wanted to see his reply)

i dont understand you at all you must have the tracking number and

waybill, i want you to know that the payment has already been

deposited in care of your Bank account and cannot be returned back to

me by the Bank because any payment been made by the Buyer to the

Seller's account cannot be returned back to the buyer and the money

credited into your account once Bank received the shipment details

money will be credited into your account once Bank received the

shipment details from you and within 24-hours your money will arrived

and reflect into your account for you to cashed okay.. So,i will

henceforth urge you to kindly bear with Bank procedure so that we can

both have a successful transaction and kindly ship out the item

directly now and then contact Bank with the shipment scan receipt and

your money will be credited into your account instantly without any

delay okay.. Hope you understand me and i do not want any further

argument because the transfer of the payment will be completed into

your account within 24-hours once Bank received the shipment scan

receipt from you..Awaiting for the shipment scan receipt now okay.

I once had a supposedly Scotsman trying this . I asked him to call me several times. He eventually did but it wasn't a UK phone number and he certainly didn't speak Scottish.

paypal account due to international transfer it's why Paypal put hold

on the money awaiting for your mail with the waybill tracking number

and once you do that your money shall be allow to your paypal account

hope you understand better now kindly make the shipment done send to

them the tracking number of the shipment so they can able to actiabvte

your money without any delay....

I'm surprised they're playing "the fish" as long as they are! Thanks for passing along the way this is going. I've gotten similar phishing attempts from what appeared to be my bank in the USA. Almost bit but something looked off. The website copies are very convincing.

confirmation i want you to make the shipment done and get back to the

paypal that contact you for the payment and ask to activated your

money asap..once you send to them the tracking number waybill
