US seeks Thai help to track down gangster

BANGKOK: -- Thai police have been asked by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States to track down an American known as James J. Bulger, who is among the bureau's 10 most wanted fugitives.

The suspect, a Boston-based gangster, has a million (40 million baht) price on his head.

He has been high on the list of criminals wanted by the US on 18 counts of murder, racketeering, extortion and money laundering in the US, Europe and Asia, according to Pol Lt Gen Achirawit Supannapesa, the police spokesman.

The suspect has assumed different names and undergone many facial surgeries.

His alias include Thomas F. Baxter, Tom Harris, Tom Marshall, "Whitey".

The spokesman said the Royal Thai Police Office had asked for the latest photographs of the suspect and more information about him from the FBI branch in Thailand for further distribution to police nationwide.

However, citing the information from the Immigration Office, Pol Lt Gen Achirawit said there was no confirmation that the suspect was in Thailand as claimed by the FBI.

The name Whitey Bulger does not show up on the immigrations computer database, therefore he is certainly not here?

I suspect that might have been the point - sending the beaters into the scrub

Excatly. Hoping he will get nervous and start moving and then be detected.

Anyone can stay in Thailand for 20 years without ever being detected, it isn't rocket sience.
