Thailand is following China's footsteps and starts eating dogs : 400/500 dogs slaughtered each week for fur and meat in Barn Tarae (Sakon Nakorn)

Most of the meat and fur is sent to China but some in now also consume in Thailand and dog meat has been seen on menu in this village

Obviously the animals are collected and slaughtered in the most horrific way.

So now after being bred in puppies farms, separated earlier from your mum, sold at Chatuchak, kept in tiny disgusting cages, chucked on the street, starved, hit by multiple diseases and generally been the target of human cruelty, Thai dogs can now rejoice to end up being clubbed and stabbed to death at this great slaughterhouse in Barn Tarae !

And with the closing of SCAD, hopes of getting rescued are now thin on the ground

Bon appetit !

Not in Thailand...in some small areas in Isaan only.

It is like you would say that Canadians slaughter seals in horrible ways.

Same....just a very small area of very insane people, not the general population.

Nothing new, maybe less public. Up north they prefer the black dogs(don't ask me why).

In China they terrify the poor dogs before their slaughter to make the meat more tender!

Nothing New here, the only new thing from what i can tell is that SCAD place is closed.

While eating dogs may seem vulgar to me, it's no more vulgar than me eating a rib eye to Indians.

So may be you should tell Berkshire and h90, because for them, that does not exist in Thailand ...

Was it an industry upon the whole village would subsist and made career out of, on a scale of 500 dogs a week?

dont get me wrong, i find it honorable what you are trying to do in raising awareness about it. the thought of people killing and eating dogs disgusts me. however, I need park my own predjudices and beliefs at times because I find it harder to let my own conditioning (upbringing) overtake what others have been brought up to believe is OK. As someone esle pointed out, seals in Canada, whale meat in Japan, shark fin in China....... the list is endless.

The list of animal cruelty is indeed endless.

That is not a reason to shut up about it, on the contrary

Sakorn Nakorn is in the north east, not the south east like that article wrongly states. It is Isaan near the border with Laos. Thais have been saying that people in Sakorn Nakorn eat dogs for ages, there is a Vietnamese minority there, so this is nothing new. You're own link is quoting a report from the mid 90s. If you pay attention to the news the police have stopped many trucks trying to cross the border to Laos filled with dogs. They're now smuggling them across the Mehkong River in boats. With Vietnam becoming richer there is more and more demand for what is an expensive delicacy there. Stray dogs near the Laos border beware!

OP, there is a new topic in Farang Pub by DP25 about the movie Earthlings : right up your alley. Check it out.

I saw it thanks

The pick ups swapping dogs for a plastic bowl have stopped in my area of Issan. I must admit I did feel sorry for those poor animals, probably due to being brought up thinking that dogs are pets.

To the OP ... just exactly what is the issue that you wish to bring to the attention of the members here?

That Thais and the Chinese should not consume dog meat?

Or that it's OK for the consumption if they are slaughtered humanely?

... or another message?

.

Is it OK to eat horse?. Not in my culture sad.png

Not for me either, I am a veggie.

But it's not because there are other sufferings in the world that we must forget the one where we are.

I try to clean on my doorstep and if every does the same, the world could be a better place :)

It is new to me, to Berkshire and to H90 and I am sure many others

SO EVEN IF ONLY 2 OTHER PEOPLE DID NOT KNOW IT, IT IS AN IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THAI CULTURE WELL WORTHY OF SHARING

H90s post was correct. It is not an 'important aspect of Thai culture'. Most Thais find it disgusting. It is a tiny minority near the border with Laos that consumes dog and exports them to Vietnam. There is a reason almost every city in Thailand is over run with stray dogs. You don't see that in countries where dog eating is an important aspect of the culture like Vietnam
