This is The Nation reporting. It is really hard to say what this person's real position on these issues is from the article. The mix of "be careful with populist policies, invest in irrigation, open casinos and kill the luxury goods tax" seems like a strange collection of ideas to throw into a single news piece. There is no clear logic in the article that binds these thoughts together and which reflects the thoughts of someone who is very successful and who is clearly capable of logical thinking.

I partially agree. It's a pity though you didn't admit to twisting his words. I brought the 'demonstration' issue up because it falls into the non-work category & I know how close it is to your heart.

BTW, I don't agree with Dhanin that a welfare state encourages people not to work. There are many examples of very successful welfare states (e..g. Scandinavia) with low jobless. Also, lack of jobs is the major reason for people not being able to work.

Hi - I think if you look at my post again, you'll see that I did not twist his words, although I do have an issue in general with the way the article was put together. I have a hard time believing that it is actually representative of his ideas.

When I saw the photo thought it was some one from the Chinese Politburo, he is as Thai as I am. Some of his comments about European debt are quite true but just maybe he is pushing his own wagon. Wonder who he imagines may get the Casino licenses?

Yes, he's Thailand's richest man, and one of the richest in the world, but he built his company up to the top from the mild foundings of his father.

Yes, people can also comment about CP Foods, quality of it or whatever. That does not distinguish from the fact that he is a very successful man, and ready to be shot at. I disagree with comments about his taking from the poor; he has promoted land use and helped his suppliers for many a year. He isn't disliked in the social community, despite his origins.

I find it a little unfair of some comments, if the posters are not aware of what this man, and his family, have done to promote Thailand and help its people. Time to read up on him, if you don't know his history.

Yes, his comments are fair, but as the single most important mover in Thailand agricultural development for the last 40 years, many of the issues fall straight on his doorstep

Suppose, once casinos become legal, there will be loads of new vaccancies in the

police force as most will become full time involved in running those places.

I wonder, if casinos are to be legal, then gambling must be legal too? Can I happily

play cards with my friends without having to pay to the police privat pension fund?

Will we have Amusement Arcades with 2 baht slot machines next to

7/11 and the internet shop where all the kidds hang around after school?

Will there be topless waitresses, pole dancers? Well, Thai Style Casino?

I think I definately will be there just to see how they trow the roulet ball and roll the dices

I also disagree with the many posters here who make racist and uneducated comments.

Dhanin is very down to earth and have close association with the farmers and local villagers.

Their organizations and personal families have contributed millions and a sizable portion of income to help the local up country population.

Please do your research before spouting hate and FUD.

Yes, all that has been said about the man in the last 2 comments is true. He is however, taking back more from the farmers than he has put in. I've seen it at the village level where the farmers have complained about the price of feed for the animals that they raise - it's just not feasible for them to continue using CP feed products. AND if they do not use CP feed, they do not get the CP sales contracts.
