Question Re Biometric Residence Permit; Uk

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife has just received her BRP card and it is valid until 31.07.2014. We applied on 31.07.12. My question is that as we applied for a Fiance visa in March 2012 is the 2 year FLR effectively 18 month extension. Is the expiry date incorrect on the card?

Thanks

Having checked your previous posts I see that you are in the UK, so have edited the topic title to include the country.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING.

Having entered on a fiance visa and then married you apply for FLR, this is valid for 24 months. You also apply for a BRP, which is valid for the length of the FLR.

You say your wife applied for FLR on 31/7/12 and her BRP is valid until 31/7/14. That's 24 months.

Where did you get 18 months from?

Once her FLR expires she applies for Indefinite Leave to Remain, and another BRP; neither of which will have an expiry date as they are indefinite.

Thanks again 7by7 for clearing that up!

The biometric card for ILR holders does have an expiry date on it (similar to a drivers licence). It is the card that expires (and needs to be renewed) not the ILR.

Thanks for the update.
