This is a long time favorite item from the seashore for Thais. The clams are หอยเสียบ (Hoy Siab), common on beaches that are not heavily developed. They are pickled in fish sauce - usually eaten with ข้าวต้ม (plain rice soup). Also good as a ยำ (Yum) with shallot, ginger, lime juice and hot peppers.

Shake the little clams out into a clean bowl, pour the fish sauce back into the bottle so that the rest of the clams remain under the liquid. They should keep for a while......

Thanks Dara....for the info

Thanks Bambi....for the photo

Actually we saw these guys along the road between SriRacha and Chonburi. It looks interesting...just curious that's all.

I'm thinking of bringing my many friends here to Thailand at the end of this year for 20 yrs university reunion. It might be fun to have bonfire and a game of Pick-These-Clams! :o

you should add

-Pla Rah (Ferment Fish)

-Fried Insect

-Hoy Dong ( the one you mention Clams In Whisky Bottle)

now you have "Fear Factor" game!!

Now that's a good idea!....

All I have left is finding the place for that bonfire...without burning down the forest!....I've heard thailand doesn't have any drop of rain in the winter. Might have to pee on it - as an emergency backup plan! :D
