Indeed. However that particular page does not come up in a Google search, because it isn't linked to from anywhere.

It comes up when I search. It's the 3rd result.

Ah yes, I see it now, when using the Thai Google.co.th site.

On the other hand of course, there is *plenty* evidence to show that he was planning his exit strategy, so to speak, for example in this topic which I recognized immediately for what it was when he posted it a year ago: http://www.thaivisa....ii-sai-kraduck/

Hi Winnie, I wnat to address this one in particular if I may. Ajarn was chronically ill, even terminally really when considering his various ailments. My father had a similar situation and talked about preparing for his death for several years before he passed away earlier this year. He knew he was dying and was preparing himself and us for it. I can't imagine that his post is any different than the discussions with my father as he became more and more ill.

Its a terrible thing to have to go through and my heart goes out to him and his family.

It pains me that someone has to endure that sort of loneliness, especially as ones health starts to fade. I can not even to pretend to understand what circumstances lead him to this point, but can take comfort that his loneliness is over.

Looking at his backyard and pool however, it's clear that he is a man who appreciated beauty and took comfort in creating serenity. RIP.

In reading the webpage [ http://asiarecipe.com/Larry.html ] one can readily conclude that a professor of English would not have written a page with so many grammar errors. Sentence structure, punctuation, spelling and more are so inconsistent with good grammar and logical thinking.

A few sentences and phrases here and there read well, but most appears to be cobbled together. In my opinion the page has been tampered with.

As has been stated throughout, Ajarn was heavily medicated and had mood swings because of it. Because his English isn't perfection, you shouldn't be jumping at ghosts.

RIP Larry.

It comes up because it is now being linked to from multiple sources.

Google is very quick to update these days.

That is sad indeed, but "Ajarn" Larry had several strokes and was in very poor health for a long time. I hope that he made the right choice and is in a better place.

R.I.P.

RIP.

People who have had a stroke, can have problems with communication, writing and typing.

I agree that's possible; likely even. Sbk's and Scott's posts above are also well noted.

Never new the man but just read his website very very sad I hope he managed to do what he said and wreck his swimming pool and all the improvements he undertook and that his landlord gets no joy from it maybe it was those issues raising the rent that made him take his life I hope that he now is at peace with himself such a sad way to end ones life !!!!!!

Teaching English as a foreign language does not in any way mean that one is going to write perfectly. They are not the same skills and someone in Larry's condition might be prone to make small typing mistakes anyway.

Also, it would be almost impossible to set up a fake suicide using helium gas. This is a very common way for very ill people to commit suicide painlessly and a very unlikely way to murder someone. I am sure that his sister is shocked and upset, but my guess is that his death was his own decision

please remember that American spelling is way different to English spelling

It's strange, I didn't feel sad reading his web page.

I kind of did. He mentions not having friends, a lot. I think you only mention that when it bothers you to some degree. In addition it seems objectively not true, he references his Australian friend at the end, who also helped with the funeral, as well as the woman he married. (Also he had 731 Facebook friends, but I can see not counting all of them as real friends. wink.png

He always struck me as someone who was in control of his stuff, organizing things perfectly and being proud of it. It also seems he organized his death and funeral very well, down to the design of his urn thing. So I still don't quite know what to make of that page. Maybe it's a fairly recent effort to manage legal proceedings, something that shows clearly it is his own choice. He may not have intended it for wide publication; it sure didn't show up anywhere as early as 2008. It doesn't fit the image he consistently portrayed of himself.

OTOH

His writing was pretty impressive just a month before his demise.

That's pasted content from his original site into a forum post. So it would have been written much earlier. The text you linked to originally appeared here: http://asiarecipe.co...hilltribes.html , and is attributed to an original article in Welcome Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai, a (former?) tourist magazine, here: http://www.chiangmai-chiangrai.com/hilltribes.html

At the time it was pasted into a forum post he may have already transferred control of his site to someone else, as per this post: http://asiarecipe.co...?showtopic=2233

It´s obviously his choice. Reading this, I can´t help thinking about that Cambridge Professor in his wheelchair, who is really just a head with some nutrient solution flowing in, the body completely inert, and yet he keeps going. What I cannot approve of, on the other hand, is making a public story about that suicide, complete with link to instructions. For the simple reason that there are weak characters around who might be enticed to imitating...

Never knew the guy and certainly wish him sincerest RIP.

I think he had guts, guts to face life with all his medical issues and guts to end it his own way.

RIP gutsy guy.

Motor Nurons Disease (ALS) doesn't affect the mind and clearly Steven Hawkins has a brilliant one (although he has been proved wrong recently). But at least this guy had the guts to go out as he wished and in control rather than hanging on to the bitter end and dragging people down round about him. I have seen carers here age 10 years in 6 months while trying to cope with a dying person - its very stressful for someone who is not trained or cut out for it.

Just wished Larry had thrown a party for TV members first and we could have smashed his pool up afterwards!
