PM unhappy with counter-insurgency plans: Defence Minister

BANGKOK, Aug 15 - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is not satisfied with current plans by 17 ministries for resolving the continuing violence in Thailand’s Malaysian border provinces, according to Defence Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat.

The plans will be forwarded to the committee tasked with driving policies and strategies to deal with the southern violence, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa, who supervises security affairs.

The committee will see which plans or projects must be implemented urgently. Any unnecessary plan will be removed, he said.

“The prime minister is not satisfied with some points of the plans and those will be adjusted to fit the need. It is not difficult to do so, but it depends on the committee to revise them as needed,” the defence minister said.

Regarding a report about the distribution of pamphlets bearing messages threatening Thai Buddhists in the region, the defence minister said it is a part of insurgents’ tactics and the authorities are dealing with the problem. (MCOT online news)

How many Ministries? And how many within these ministries with any opinion or say in the matter? Then the PM who has about as much experience in these matters as a new army recruit says she is not happy with it? Right. Call a convicted criminal and get the answers for all of them. Good system na khrup?

Next time a serious debate crops up in parliament. She can pay the south another visit.

Actually, this is precisely what they are fighting for. Slim chance in that though, with all the vested interest in palm oil and rubber plantations by the rich and influential Sino-Thai families...

The good priminister should move right next to a Mosque. Then she could have the message of Allah blasted over loud speakers at 5:30 a.m.

to help her wake up, followed by another loud speak blast of Allah's message at 6 a.m. to remind her not to forget to put on her make-up.

That would be a great insurgency plan. She might even think about letting those 3 provinces have their own little country and a little piece

of mecca all their own.

Then they could blow the poop out each other, and no money would be needed from the Thai government to constantly rebuild the area.

The Muslim community should reall have a choice.

Agree. The border set after WWII gave them to Thailand. I say give them back to Malay and be done with them. Of course they never will and are doomed to fail in stopping the violence by the Muslims.

The real question is how in the heck can the Thai Governemnt control or even attempt to deal with the Insurgency problem,

when they obviously cannot control themselves.

History makes the rules, and when people continue to make the same mistakes over and over and over again, they fail to learn thrye

the lessons of their own hist try.

A civilization that cannot learn from their very own history crumbles...The history of civilizatiions and their demise proves that.
