Thai-US discuss cooperation to suppress human trafficking

BANGKOK, 15 August 2012 (NNT) – Thailand has asked the US to remove the country from the American human trafficking watch list, after the activities in Thailand have been reduced.

US Ambassador to Thailand Kristie A. Kenney has met with Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung to discuss the human trafficking situation in Thailand. Currently Thailand is on Tier 2 of the US human trafficking watch list, with Tier 3 being for countries with the worst human trafficking policies.

Mr Chalerm stated the Thai government has been paying close attention to the well-being of the alien workers, saying it has raised awareness of human trafficking issue with industrial entrepreneurs and is imposing strict punishment on those who violate the law.

In response, Ms Kenney thanked the Thai government for placing an emphasis on the matter. She asked Mr Chalerm to support prosecution of those who violate the law so that the number of human trafficking cases in Thailand will be reduced.

Lots of Luck Ms. Ambassador. No prosecutions in Thaland will occur. "Strict punishment on those who violate the Law"; will be

payoffs or bail at the worst. The U.S. Ambassador is dreaming.coffee1.gifermm.gif

Which you can be quite sure she is well aware of. She only thanked Chalerm for placing "emphasis" on the issue. You can also be sure that Thailand's status on the watchlist will not be amended any time soon. The international community is quite conscious of the sincerity of the Thai authorities regarding proper law enforcement.

The best thing any of us can do is ignore the constant tirade of verbal diarrhorea being quoted in the press and realise only outfits like S.I.S.H.A. are effective in tis region regarding human trafficking. If Thailand were serious about HT they would be financing this group who have continuous success monthly and work in conjunction with many police from a number of countries.

And Thailand is still a major 'blind eye' contender in HT. To ask to be removed is laughable.

you can't say "ok we're better now take us off the list" it doesn't work that way.sound's like somebody's trying to blow a lot of hot air up somebody's pants leg.

what a joke,do they really believe, that the US will believe such hot air, whats it been just a couple of months since they were placed on the list

and we're better already,NOT

I use hot air in place of ****

Human trafficking? Where? They won't find any "trafficking" here. Just bargirls who ply their trade WILLINGLY.
