Hi All

Been reading the forums and FAQ's for a while on and off and must say you guys are a fountain of information and very nice to each other compared to other forums!

I'd appreciate some clarification on a few things that are still a bit misty:-

My wife and I are coming to Thailand after obtaining a Non-Immigrant O Visa, one year Multiple Entry. We are over 50 and intended to get retirement visas but the documentation required is way over the top (Notary Public, Police checks, Medical, etc....) so we were pleased to very easily get the lesser O visas by mail through Brisbane Consulate with just proof of income and the other basic stuff.

We have been told we need to do a visa run each 90 days - and plan to do a run to Vientiane or Siem Reap as we'll be in either Chiang Mai or Bangkok around the 90 day mark.

1. If we re-enter Thailand with, say, 3 weeks left on our original 90 days is there any chance that we will NOT get another 90 day stay? i.e. would we have to do something closer to the end of the 90 day period?

2. Do we get the next 90 days at a Thai consulate (in Vientiane or Siem Reap) or can we get it at the Thai border on re-entry? We may re-enter by land at Nong Kai or Aranya Prathet, or we might fly back to Bangkok (if possible).

3. Do we need to supply proof of income again (technically or otherwise) and are copies of bank statements OK?

Would appreciate your opinions and anything else you have to offer.

Thanks........Harry

All you have to do is leaved the country, enter another one and turn round and come back.

Come and go as many times as you want.

You will get 90 days every time as long as the Visa is still valid.

I.E Enter the day before it expires to get 90 days. Giving a total of almost 15 months.

You do not need bank statements or anything else. Just your passport.

If you do not want to do border runs.

Apply for 12 month extensions at Immigration in Thailand.

No Police checks and No Medical checks needed.

Only one of you will need 800,000 in the bank or 65,000 income.

If you intended to extend for retirement all you needed was single entry visas - so you have paid for multi entry valid for one year of 90 day stays so up to you if you want to use or not. You can extend for retirement during the last 30 days of any entry. That would require you meet the normal financial conditions. But for visa usage just exit/return for new 90 day stay as often as you wish during the on year validity of the visa.

Thanks LB and Lop

I'm all sorted now. Only staying 5 1/2 months this time so the one 90 day visa run will be fine - and an opportunity to see Laos or Cambodia.

Looking forward to (another) lovely time in Thailand.

HI Mate,

Thank you very much for sharing your advise.

Currently, im holding a non-o visa (till january 2014) applied in Thai embassy in Kuala lumpur, my 90 days are due , and was planning to do a border run to Poipet by bus.

is it true that i will get another 90 days even im not travelling by airplane as long as my non-o visa still valid?

By the way, i would like to enquire further as you mention 12 months extension at immigration in Thailand. Only condition i will need is thb800,000 in my bank for a couple of months , right? Can i applied this in Chaeng Wattana ?

As my non-o visa still valid, will it cancel my non-o visa if i applied for the 12 months extension without 90days limits?

Please advise.

Cheers

Andrew

You get 90 days by air or land. Just cross border enter the other country and return to Thailand.

As said you can get an extension during your last 30 days of any 90 day entry. Just have 800k baht in the bank for 60 day or proof of income of 65k baht by a income letter from embassy or a combination of the two totaling 800k baht.

You must apply for the extension at immigration office where you live and may be asked for proof of address.

Your visa would still be valid but if you used it you would loose your extension.

To keep extension you must have a re-entry permit from immigration. Cost is 1000 baht for a single or multiple 3800 baht. Both will be valid up to the date extension ends.
